Avic Z1 problems
I started installing my Avic Z1 yesterday afternoon, thinking it will be a 2 hour install. Could not finish it yesterday, and now there is a huge gaping hole in my dash.....[sm=smiley19.gif]
The good part is I have all the wiring in place VSS, ILL and the reverse wire, bluetooth, ipod ,mic, gps antenna.I soldered all the wires together and was installing the voltage regulator from Radioshack, but during the installI broke one of the legs on the regulator (will have to get another one).
So I went ahead and soldered the blue/white wires on the harnesses without the regulator.
I read and reread the official Avic Z1 install thread, but i still cannot figure out one issue. AnytimeIincrease the volume past15 on the avic the speakers/subs sound like cheap $20 speakers and start popping.Has anyone figured out bypassing theshaker amplifier and use the output from the Z1 directly to the subs, or is the popping due to the non existant voltage regulator??
Any help will be greatly appreciated

RE: Avic Z1 problems
I may be wrong but I believe thats called clipping and is usually due to improper grounds but it sounds like your missing regulator is probably the culprit. The regulator is there for a reason, so you might want to refrain from playing the stereo without it till its replaced as to not mess up anything.

RE: Avic Z1 problems
I may not have described it properly, its totally different from the popping one hears when the system boots up.I thought that I was using the regulator to eliminate that.
What my problem is that the output is getting over amplified, the Avic output is 12V whereas the shaker's output was only 5V and was being amplified by the shaker amp. With my current setup I am amplifing the 12V from the avic and the factory speakers cannot handle the output.
I maybe wrong, but this is what the installer at my local Circuit City told me. I ended up doing the install myself, because he wanted to charge me $671 + taxes for the install[sm=jawdrop.gif]. I had already bought all the parts, including the harness and the dash kit.
