Did you order your Stang?
I ordered mine because I couldn't find exactly what I wanted. There were only a few 5speed verts within a 200 mile radius, and they didn't have the options I wanted.
Anyway... I found that prices were a bit higher to order one than to buy one off the lot. Got it for $600 over invoice. Rebate was $1000 when it finally was delivered in Jan 07.

Had to order mine in april of 2005 came in buy july 13 just made the deadline to get the 2005.I got my bone stock no thrills at the local dealership they had internet sales dept that is how I got sticker price, at the time they were no 5 speed manuals to be found and if you did findone the dealership was marking them up $5000.00over sticker.Im sure buynowbecause cars aren't selling so wellyou will be able to find a good deal.
Metal man,
Just ordered a GT convertible about a week ago. Bottom line price was about $300 below invoice (Northern VA) plus any rebates effective at time of delivery. The reason I ordered is because it is rare in my area to find a convertible with a 5-speed, spoiler delete, 18" wheels, and a color I wanted.
I started hitting dealers through the Internet--told them what I wanted, what options were non-negotiable and things I could work around. Asked them what the best price they could give me. If they didn't give me a straight answer on price after a couple of emails, they were out. BTW, the internet is the best way to get around the salesmen on the floor and either get a fleet manager or an internet sales specialist. Anyhow, narrowed it down to about three dealers and went to visit and test drive. Eventually went with a dealer that did not give me the best price at first but adjusted when I told him I had better offers andhe knew I was serious about giving him a sale. Overall a good, relatively stress free experience.
The two main sites I used were Edmunds.com to determine the "true market value" in my area and believe it or not fordvehicles.com to contact dealers andget an ideawhat dealers had on the lot.

Well, to me "just short of calling BS" sounds a lot like calling me a bullsh*tter- which another word for liar, but if that wasn't your intention than no harm no foul.
I really have no idea exactly what my dealer called that $500 rebate (whether Ford factory, or just from them, or for those paying cash, or a "regional" rebate). It was most definitely not a college or military rebate if that's what you're implying.
All I heard was the salesman saying: "at least $500 and maybe more at the time of delivery", and that was good enough for me!
Yes, I did indeed have a great experience with Larson Ford, and I made sure to call the Ford "customer relations" hotline a few days later and told them about my whole experience (they in turn contacted my dealer about my call, and the next time I went back there to pick up my tags I was treated like royalty!).
In hindsight, the only "stressful" part for me was having to wait 6 whole weeks for my new baby to be delivered (I barely made it without driving both my wife and the sales manager at Larson nuts with my nagging)........

First, you'd better read my original post VERY carefully. I never once said you lied. I used terms like "highly unlikely" and "just short of calling BS" ... so, I think it's you who needs to lighten up. There are many that have walked into a dealer and purchased a car at or very close to invoice (including me), but if you're a frequent reader of similar threads here and on other forums, you know that's not the experience of most Mustang buyers out there.
Unless the rebate you got is related to college or military as another poster stated, or if it was a dealer rebate or regional thing, I still call BS on the Ford factory rebate being offered in Sept 06 for 07 Mustangs. I know this because I was shopping for an 07 during that time, and there weren't any Ford factory rebates on the Mustang until later in the year, when I finally purchased mine.
Buying a new car can be a very stressful and daunting experience, especially when you throw in all the A, D,X or similar plans that are available depending on your eligibility. The original poster wanted to know about price negotiation experiences relative to ordering directly from the factory versus buying from dealer stock. You had a great experience, and I think we all would like to have a similar one, but you have to realize yours is the exception, not the rule.... especially if the dealergave you a "factory" rebate that Ford wasn't offering themselves at that time.

Also, if anyone is buying these cars for one penny over sticker is crazy! (I'm also including GT500's and Shelby GT's) There are dealers out there selling them at sticker, believe me!!!
Yep I was looking at the 2005 Stang Gts when they first came out...
The cheapest was MSRP
I felt since it was June of 2005 why not wait for the 2006s in late aug so they can knock out any bugs...
I ordered mine from a dealer with the X-Plan but the dealer was getting a few GTs in EXCEPT mine, and I was the only one ordered a stang at that time. And when I called fords 800# I was still in Limbo......
I called a dealer on Laborday weekend of 2005 and got a 2006 Stang Gt at INVOICE,,,,no need for X-Plan................
I think X-Plan will save you a few dollars,,,If you want to get something from stock..Invoice is just as good,I save $2700 off of MSRP.......
Right now I think you will need to beCRAZY to order anything because the 2008s will bealready 4 years out already for the newer stangs.
I am sure that there will be people on here that will say that they want the color or specail interior package or something.....
If anyone wants to look a bit I am sure they can find what they want within 100 miles.....
I am sure at this stage,if and when your local ford dealer comes out with the new 2008 Stang GT they will not let yeaaaa walk out the door even if you offer to give them Invice for the car,,,,,same with the 2007 if you need the car now.......JT

I bought mine in Feb '06. I didn't order it, but it took me 2+ months to find it, and I looked in multiple states.
I eventually found mine on this site: http://www51.forddirect.fordvehicles...=HomePageFlash
It showed up here before it showed up on that dealer's own website, and when I called, they said they had JUST gotten it in by truck.
BTW, if I recall I got mine at about invoice...no fancy plan or contact. It really just depends on the dealership. I bought mine in Maine, and the dealership has always been pretty reasonable with prices. Other places (MA, NJ dealerships) were quoting me ridiculous prices (over MSRP) and they didn't even have what I wanted.

NYC NJ Boston and Maine really sucked when the 2006s came out.....
But then again you got your 2006in Feb of 2006 and I got my Stang Gt Sept of 2005 at Invoice.
At those times there were not many newer stangs on the road, then around june of 2006 I started to see many more V6s but hardly ever saw a GT until around Aug of 2006 and now I see at least 1 or 2 Gts a week........
I have been seeing many more YELLOW chargers,,,,,,If the charger were called something different without the hemi I am sure there would not be as many of the road as there are today...
But everyone should be able to get a Stang Gt at invoice with no problemsssss at allllllll.
If the dealer does not want to deal with yeaaa I am sure there are another 20 dealers within 50 miles.
If I was buying another Gt I would ask for the salesmanger ONLY and tell them you are interested in the GT and are willing to only pay INVOICE ONLY,,,,Don't talk about monthly payments or how much can yeaaa affrord amonth,,,,stick with the invoice number and you will do well.....JT

Negotiated and bought my factory-ordered 06 GT entirely through email. Played a couple dealers off each other until eventually I got it at invoice. Started the whole email thing in September, sealed the deal by fax 12/28/05. Never even met my salesguy until I picked the car up in March 06. (Test drove at a different dealer).
Sometimes, the dealer is willing to give you a good deal on a factory-order since they basically have no cost involved in the sale. They have to pay interest on cars that sit on their lot, plus upkeep, etc. until it's sold. With a factory order, they do nothing but place the order and give you the keys when it arrives. They still get their holdback money, and have done almost no work, In addition, if you convince them that you will return to them for your service needs after the sale, and plan to use dealer financing, you're more likely to get it at invoice.
