Gauge Install Questions
Has anyone out there installed the Cobalt wideband A/F guage themself? The instructions suck @ss if you ask me. I didnt even open the boost gauge yet - for fear that its three lines of instructions suck too. I tried a search but didnt see anything. Anyone out there got some tips... I need help here!!
I did mine. First stop is to a muffler shop to have the bung welded into the down pipe coming off the exhaust manifold. I called Midas, they said no way. I had Meineke do it for $40.
For the install: Jack up the left front of tthe car, remove wheel, take down the rear fender cover, screw the O2 sensor into the bung, plug the cable into the sensor pigtail, mount the harness securely (I drilled a hole it an aluminum heat shield and tie-strapped the cable to it), run the cable through the large grommet (there is a small nipple sticking out--poke it through that. There is a good photo of that on the Raptor thread that someone just ran), run the wiring to whereever you plan to mount the gauge.
Mine is in a Speed of Sound piller pod. Run a power wire and connect to the red wire (again, look at the raptor thread for a good power tapping idea and photos), twist the two black wires together and run to a chassis ground. I think there is a blue and brown wire for data-logging and WOT sensor. I am not using either of them right now. I just tucked them out of the way. Autometer sells an adaptor for datalogging ($15), but I'm not sure the word is out on how to connect the 9-pin DIN cable to your laptop.
Good luck!

I'm actually in the middle of installing an Autometer Cobalt Oil Pressure gauge right now. I can't help you on boost, because I don't have a supercharger.
However, Saleen has instruction on how to install their boost gauges listed on their webpage. I've been refering to them occassionally, because it has some info on grounding and power hookups. (It turns out there is a ground located behind the glove box!) I'm willing to bet the autometer gauge installs the same way.
Go to Saleen's website and download the instructions for:

My boost gauge is mechanical. I have the tubing T-ed into the line going to the bypass valve on the side of my KB. If you have an electric gauge, just connect a T connector into a vacuum line on the manifold (except brake booster or PCV line) and run it to your sensor.
I'm not too familiar with the Whipple manifold, but I'm sure there is a vacuum take-off somewhere on the manifold.
On the KB, a vacuum line goes to the fuel pressure regulator (rear of driver's side fuel rail), the boost-a-pump,and the external boost bypass valve. I borrowed via a T-connector to run my gauge.
