Good lord. Yeah, lots of VA bitching on the forums tonight, but for good reason. Like I said before, VA laws regarding anything motor vehicle related is facist. For a state that votes overwhelmingly republican in every presidential election its unbelievable how much of the state gov't is democrat. Its a ridiculous nanny-state mentality that pisses me off. Having grown up in northern and central Virginia and lived in the Shenandoah Valley for high school I thought it was normal till I lived in Ohio for 5 years and Florida for 2. Thank god I'm military and a Florida resident now. I still wonder how much **** I'll get when I move to CA or VA at the end of the year. Do all the ridiculous laws still apply to me if the car is not registered or titled there?
Edit: Good job on the research. Definitely carry it with you but don't be a jerk about it cause cops HATE being made to look stupid. Oh yeah, my car breaks a law or two in VA I guess....LM's, SLP x-pipe (even with cats is still louder than factory) and my 20% front tints and 15% rear....**** I hate those ridiculous laws.

Wow - lots of VA on the forums tonight! I find the cop's story hard to believe. The last 3 cars I've owned have had driving lights and I've never gotten pulled over for them. For the record, at night I always drive with both sets of lights on.

I gotta agree with 2007 GT/CS, just print a copy of the law out. But I don't think they're going to be able to ticket you... even if you don't have the information on hand.

what would they do if you live in NC and youwere traveling through VA and they stopped you for you your tint being 35% (legal in NC, illegal in VA)???

But as long as you have NC tags then they can't do anything too you unless it's a safty related violation

Yeah, I've been checking out the NVMC website lately. Unfortunately I don't think I'll ever be able to make it to a meeting though (I work most Saturdays).

I used to be stationed in VA (long time ago), and it sounds like nothing's changed! I agree with keeping a copy in your glove box, but I would be hesitant to throw it in a cop's face. You handled it right the first time - just explain nicely in a logical way - don't start spouting off with the law - he WILL win. If after a nice talk he hasn't figured out he's wrong, you're probably better off taking the ticket rather than risk him making the rest of your day/night miserable with searches, dogs, BS, etc. Get the ticket dismissed in court with the law on your side then.
