05 V6 and hooking it up
yumm for your information the damn insurance on a gt if put into the v6 mustang would make it faster than a gt by far, let alone just the 4 grand in cost difference.
Dont be so cocky with your v8s, and you 4 banger people watch it, at the end of the day its all about displacement and those 05 v6es may not come with much to start, but they do got twice hte displacement as your average 4 banger, and plus you can do a 24 valve DOHC head swap with the 05ers.
umm Modding a 350z cool, modding a S2000 cool, hell even modding a civic is considered cool, but why is the topic of modding a v6 mustang so taboo???!?!?
First of all there is a 10 sec v6 mustang running on nothign but a junkyard stock motor and twin turbos taken off of the old GSX eclipses out of a junkyard, all under a grand has about 450 whp on race gas
yea, the 350Z has a DOHC 24 valve motor right, 05 v6 has a 4.0 litre SOHC 12 valve motor (its got the block that can take 24V DOHC heads) the 350z is only 3.5 litres.....
Hondas and imports come pretty much maxed out to begin with, the whole point to performacne modding is buying a lower powered car that has potential and making it fast. Not to say its still @#$ing cool to see a 500 hp 1.6 litre SOHC civic here and there.
my car is a 2004 v6 mustang, got it for 14,500 brand new with A plan discount, the insurance is about a 1/4 as mucha s they wanted for the GT, igot stuck with an auto cuz i had to take one off the lot to get the discount.
I have put in about 400 dollars in exhaust (magnaflow y pipe back duals) and 80 for the install (middle of winter didnt want to mess with it ), and then i bought a Cold air intake brand new for 150 (didnt want to deal with e-bay), an intake manifold spacer for about 80 bucks with the gaskets, harland sharp roller rockers (for you overhead cam guys these are valve liftres basicly) for about 267 with shipping, and i got a Ford Chip performance chip which is made by a guy who has an 11 sec v6 nearby where i live.
so yea for about a grand (the exhaust just cost a lot cuz i wanted the stainless) i've got about 230-240 hp and 260 torque about at the motor, still have yet to run it in the 1/4 mile cuz i am lazy and havent gotten down there yet, but on the street i have fairly beaten a 95 GT convertible 5.0 litres, with pulley and exhaust, Acura TL, neons and a bunch of other little non-turbo, non-vtec four bangers.
so yea i dont see what the big deal is about a v6 mustang, and by the way there is quite a bit of performance people with the 3.8 stuff, and you know the Buick Grand National, well the ford v6 3.8 litre is derived from that motor, and tose things are untouchable by most imports. Its a turbo 3.8 if you didnt know.
The 3.8 blocks in some ways are stronger htan a lot of the 5.0 v8es that people are running.
also i think its kind of cool having a v6 that can smoke v8es, it gets kind of boring if everyone had the standard 5.7, 6.0 OHV chevy/ dodge v8es, and 4.6 SOHC and DOHC ford v8es.
"no 2000si u missed my point..prolly b/c I never explained it..but hear my reasoning....I have absolutely no problem w/ ppl modding 4 or 6 cylinder cars...its just that if ur gonna get a mustang get a MUSTANG!
"
yea if it werent for our v6 and I4 mustangs you wouldnt be sitting in your nice v8 mustang, it wouldnt exist!
the v6/I6/I4 mustang kept it alive during the tough times, hell what if tomorrow oil pushes 100 a barrel? the best car you could get would be a v6 mustang for a daily driver, still faster than your average econobox jap car, and get great gas mileage, my 04 v6 with its slightmods gets over 30 mpg highway! and still tears the doors off of near stock 5.0s.
Yea and right now Justin at VelocityMustangPerformance, is building up his motor and will probably be pushing at least 9s by summer of 06, and 8s probably if he feels like it.
The 3.8 and 4.0 engine in stock form is a mild motor designed more for powering minivans and suvs cheaply, but still doesnt mean its got potential, hell the 4.6 v8 is derived from the same motor that powers the v8 exploresr, you would probably still think its cool to have a 230 hp 4.6 SOHC v8 just cuz its got 8 cylanders, same goes with the v6es, just ford doesnt tune up the v6 for the mustang since its just for the average poor person like me who cant afford a v8 at 19 (i pay for my own car).
Yes no doubt i'd rather have the v8, but smetimes i actaully enjoy having an underdog and have the challnege to make it fast.
The gas mileage i get is untouchable by most v8es, only v8es i've seen touch 30 mpg highway are highly refined LS1, ls2 and LS6 motors.

I totally agree with xRockThePonyx. I read the original guy's question and the first several replies were the biggest pile of absolute crap I ever seen in my life! How immature and narrow minded can you be??? GROW UP!!!!! Just because you have a GT doesn't mean your **** doesn't stink!!! A Mustang with a V6 is still a Mustang and has great potential. The guy was just looking for some help and all you idiots did was shoot him to peices!
I didn't read the rest of the posts but I supose it ended up with another one of these stupid V6 vs V8 wars similar the arguments that I remember in the grade 8 classroom. It scares me to think that some people this immature own Mustangs.
My only regret in this life is that I've had to share it with idiots.

hey i was thinking the same thing. i mean a mustang is a mustang, no matter what the engine!! i seen a 2005 mustang v-6, and i was thinking that its a nice car, it just needs alittle more power. if i had a v-6 2005, i would add a few things to it so it could make about 245horses. but, i still think the 300hp GT is better. lol. the mustang is the only car that has been running for 40 years straight, unlike the chevy camaro and the pontiac firebird (both of which i like). well, thats all i have to say, later

but yea, all mustangs are cool, i find most sports cars cool in general, I dont particulary like hondas, but you gotta admist 240 hp out ofa little 2.2 litre 4 banger is pretty impressive.
my preferances are RWD, and american and its all good.
turbo coupe T-birds, supercoupe t-birds, all not v8es yet cool, Buick Grand national cool yet a v6....
new GT mustang is cool too.
I like the ford v8es cuz they are like the best of both worlds, got the overhead cams like a honda, but got some of the displacement like a good old v8.

Proven fact, the Mustang V6 is what has kept the Mustang line alive all these years! Besides, as long as we all kill ricers, who cares.
MOD'ing it depends on your budget, and opinions vary, but here are some tips:
1. Get a CAI, K&N/Steeda have good units for these, AFE's comes out this week and I hear good things about it
2. Exhaust, replace the muffler at least, the stock V6 Muffler is very restrictive, if your budget is tight, get a 05 GT take off muffler from ebay, they are cheap there and perform well. And its a good sound. If money is not a issue, go true dual setup. The cat on the V6 is dual that Y's into a single pipe. Meinike can do it, make sure you go with an X Pipe, mufflers are based on your choice of sound (flowmaster, magnaflow, etc.)
3. Get a TLOC and 4.1 gears (if money is no issue)
4. Get a tune, that will maxamize the mods listed above
Companies are still working on S/C and Tubos for the car, so it's probably best to wait til the market matures. Also, try this site for V6 upgrades:
http://www.v6mustangstuff.com/
And here is a link to the 05 V6 tech forum here, there are some real specific discussions on your car here:

Congrats dude! You'll love the car!

Speaking as a new V6 owner and seeing a lot of 'why the hell did you get a v6 and not a v8' type posts I'd thought I'd share my logic.
#1) Every dealer in the area was tacking on $7K to $10K for a GT. The V6s were knocked up $2-3K above sticker. I choked that down griping to them the whole way. I find new cars marked up like that dishonest and told them so. I've had other times where I bought at hot car at sticker just fine. But now since you can't order any more they're taking advantage of it. I managed to get more out of my trade in so even though they sold me a few K over sticker they also gave me the same amount more on my trade in vs. their original quote so I still feel like I didn't get any lube.
#2) Gas Mileage. I commute about 50 miles a day and thats about all I drive, going from a car that got 20 MPG on 93 octane to this one that takes 87 octane. I'll reserve judgement on the MPG after a get a few tanks in and get the engine broken in. Not sure if the V8 required that or if it was just the saleen and what not.
#3) I have managed to be ticket free for 2 years. It's a personal record (and I'm 33 years old). If I got a GT, Well, I know me, and I like the fact that my insurance is 'reasonable' even though I'm now 'old' by insurance standards.
#4) Even if I managed to choke down the markup, every GT on the lot was an automatic transmission, and that's not right.

Come on over to the 4.0L forum... plenty of mod ideas in there without all the attitude of the very few, but very vocal, haters. Remember folks, there's always a bigger fish...

Who dug up this train wreck? Hey NEWBS, note that the member that started this thread has not posted here in well over SIX MONTHS. That's almost a half-year in big-boy time. The '05 V6 vs. GT crap was put to rest long ago. Go about your business, nothing to see here.
I am constantly wondering why people who are interested in performance start out with the V6. It is one of the weakest v6's on the market, the Hyndai Sonata V6 has 235hp for chrissakes!!!!!! And the Stang V6 is 4.0 liters! WTF!! As far as complaining about the lack of V8's around, guess what, by buying the V6's, people are telling Ford that they are fine!! Simple economics. If people didn't buy them (ala the GTO) Ford would make less in the future, and more V8's. I'm sick of reading V6 owners saying "I don't care that they are not fast" and then seeing them ask people how to make them go faster!!! WTF is wrong here? Cars that smoke the V6 Mustang: Honda Accord V6, Toyota Avalon, Nissan Altima, Buick LeSabre, etc. All dragstrip heroes!!!! All I'm saying is that in this day and age of vanilla, conservative sedans making at least 240 hp, the Stang V6 is woefully underpowered, and Ford can do better.

Seph, nuttin personal, bro, just felt all "soap-boxy" all of a sudden. Glad you got it... [sm=smiley20.gif]
Thunder, ummmm, you're right on target - I missed your point. What exactly did our new brethren buy? A hologram of an American icon? If an '05 V6 Mustang is not a Mustang, what is it? Thank cripes he didn't buy a doggone Civic hatchie or something ghastly like that! I don't give a damn how fast you can make a Japanese-built, Volkswagen-with-a-broke-muffler-soundin' 4-banger go, or hp/liter, or all this psi/boost junk. Just give me some cold-blooded Amurkin looks and power, man! And make it a FORD!!! On the side!! and make it purty! Hooaah!! [sm=icon_rock.gif]
I'll break down his first post for ya, Thunder.
Here we have a convert: "ive always been a big time camaro lover but since they dont make them anymore and the new mustang is beutiful i decided to get one." For that alone we should be thankful, my equine brother. He even thinks his V6 Stang is faster than his V8 Camaro! There may be different dates on the side of the milk carton, granted, but those new V6's are undeniably STOUT! I've driven one. He's spot on. [sm=smiley2.gif]
So he comes poking around our forum "hey whats up guys" looking for love and guidance. He's got a kick-*** stereo, slappin in some hot red leather seats, wants to make his V6 the "toughest V6 around." which is going to end up emabarassing a lot of V8's lemme tell ya! Sounds to me like a man in love - who among us can't relate? Crap, most of us have NAMES for the darn things! And you guys essentially roll out the welcome mat like this: "get a V8...why fart with a V6?...you're wasting your money...you're wasting your time...why do you even want to mod a lowly V6?" Essentially, just go away loser. [sm=icon_beat.gif]
Which is a strange way to make him feel welcome, if I say so myself. [sm=smiley21.gif]Notice he's only made the one post? Hopefully, and I mean it, he didn't say, "What a bunch of jerks" and never comes back. That would suck a$$! He NEEDS us! [sm=icon_cheers.gif]
So, Thunder, if you really "absolutely no problem w/ ppl modding 4 or 6 cylinder cars...." then get on about telling the newbie what you think he could/should/shouldn't/can/must do instead of busting the ***** of his new mistress. You're obviously ate up with it just like the rest of us knuckleheads; look at your mods. You're off the meat rack, yo! That GT is sick! Street cred out the yin yang! I know I'd listen to what you have to say.....
92, come back! [sm=smiley31.gif]
$H!T!! Back on the box! I must look like an idiot, sticking up for some cat I'll never meet with a car that's cooler than mine!
