I think its better to fill up more often, filling up only 5 or 6 gallons at a time. I thought I read somewhere if more peopledo that, it helps keep gas prices a tiny bit lower or something. Kinda like that thing where if everyone bought no gas for just one day it would cause such a huge impact on prices.

If you really want to know how accurate it is, it would be easy to test it. Run your car until it says you have about 10 miles left. Thenput a 2 gallon gas can in your trunk anddrive around until you run your tank dry. Keep monitoring the readout just before you run out and then you will know just how accurate the "miles left" prediction is. Then you can come back and post your results here on the forum.

lol good idea i'd try that if i was bored and i had a gas can

i drove about 15-20 miles across town with 0 miles left on the way to the dealership cuz i thought my fuel gauge was reporting zero gas when i had like half a tank actually. turns out that i actually had that problem where the tank will only fill up to like half full. i made it to the dealership, but when they took it for a test run the tank ran dry and it died on them lol

It's not accurate at all... I picked my girl up at the airport after vacation and we were talking and I completely forgot to get gas... I saw the gauge change to red but couldn't find a gas station for the life of me... got all the way down to 0 miles to empty & decided better take a pick now... I drove for another 5 miles before I got gas...here is a pick of it...

I have never paid any attention to the DTE display, but my MPG is pretty accurate. If you look at the fuel used vs. the amount you put in the tank it is usually close. Most of the time mine is dead on or at least within .2 gal or so. I will pay closer attention to the DTE next time; it may not help because I get gas when I get to 1/4 tank.

The MPG is surprisingly very accurate in these cars, usually down to one or two tenths. I have noticed that when I have zero miles to empty I have about one gallon left. Also I reset the MPG feature as well as the miles traveled every time I fill up so that the computer is only taking the average from that point on and not from previous fillups as well. -Andrew

Why push it? I don't ever let mine get that low, no matter what color it turns.

I dont think think that most are pushing it -- just forgetting about it as I did once -- I normally get gas when I'm at about a 1/4 tank
