I use royal purple and the diff makes to much noise on slow turns without adding more ford friction modifier. The friction modifier is only for the clutches in the trak lock diff.

How much does the motorcraft gear oil cost from ford? I'd be surprised if it's any different than RP or mobile 1. Mobile 1 75w140 is $15 per quart by the way.

Royal purple states that friction modifier is already in their synthetic gear lube, but many people havefound outthat it must not beenough friction modifier in it and they needed to add more. I'm getting ford racing 4.10's installed on monday and sticking with themotorcraft 75w140 synthetic gear lube and friction modifier.

all helical cut gears are silent

bad install

Not true.

Not all companies match their ring& pinions. Comming from someone who has built quite a few rear-ends, usually the cheaper the gear, the louder they'll sing. Ford's OE gear manufacturers suck as far as quality goes. Our Master Tech says that the gears are too soft a compound--they will make noise, but last forever. Ford Racing & Richmond gears both seem to be the better of gears to be installed from personal experience.

Please add the friction modifier to the rear ends too. $13 a bottle(at our dealership) but seems to make a world of difference as far as whine & chatter goes in Ford axles.

I have a little gear whine between 30 and 35 mph and I had that before the install and I don't care. I know one thing my car is fuc&king fast.
