Default Gear whine

So my installer told me that I should expect the gears to whine some. That the whine is more noticeable because the cars are so quiet. But then I read a post that says if the gears are installed correctly, they will not whine.

So my question is......... Is there people out there that have never had a gear whine after they installed it?

I've had two sets of gears installed, 4.10's and 3.73's no whine, no vibration, no nothing. The only way I can tell I had them changed was to hit the loud pedal.

I've installed numerous sets of gears from just about any vendor you can mention and have never had any kind of whine. I've read many posts about installers telling customers that "brand x" whines because of the way they're cut, that is all a bunch of b/s because all diff gears are helical cut. If you get any kind of noise after a gear install something is not right.

I installed my FRRP 3.73's myself using these great directions below & they are perfectly quiet, it was my first install & I bought a cheap dial indicator & digital caliper off ebay for about $25. I borowed an inch lb torque wrench to set preload. They are great directions and he has a great way to set pinion depth based on you original setup from Ford.

Thanks for the help! Does anyone know of a good installer around Houston? Should I expect the price to be cheaper since I just need the gears adjusted?
