Default Hardwire radar detector

I just got my hardwire kit and I was looking to see if anyone had any instructions on how to do this. Thanks!

I'd like to know which power source you guy's use to hard wire. I also forgot the other night and passed a speed trap, the cop only gave me the signal to slow it down. As soon as I saw him pointing the radar gun at me I must have said F()ck 25 times cause I knew I was busted.[8D]

I took of the center console and took out the radio. Once the radio is out you can easily tap into the cigerette lighter (or whatever its called now) power source from behind. It is very simple once the radio is out, looks great and real clean.

Mine is located above rear view mirror and hardwired into the cigarette lighter in center console. I routed wires above headliner, down drivers side pillar, under dash and along center console into center console box, where it plugs into lighter outlet. Works great and out of sight.

I have a stupid black traingle tinting up there, with a horse on it. I thought all stangs had this?? Anyways, it makes it ineffective to put it up there...

As for the person who asked about VG2 cloaking... Ive read many tests that make a joke out of it... Either way, you don't need to be cloaked in an area where detectors aren't illegal. And you just need to slow down fast in the first place... Never rely on a detector, just use it as an assistant.

I hard wired mine into the over head console. Took all of 10 min. to do. There is a link on here with photos and detailed instructions for doing this. It's really simple, Pull down on the console and it will come off with a little force. Disconnect the wiring harness. On the console it's self you will see two black wires that connect to the lights. You want to connect the hot wire (center post on thecigplug)for your detector here . Now the hard part...... You cannot connect the ground wire to any of the grounds located in the over head console, The auto dimming feature operates off the ground side. You will need to drill a small hole or use a self tapping screw and create a new grounding location. I used one from a old ceiling fan kit that already had the groumet attached and a self taping screw that was 1/4 long. You will notice there is just enough room between the trim and windshield to slide the detector connector thru.

Good Luck

I have an Escort 8500 X50.

What I'm wanting to do (since mine is mounted right below my rearview mirror) is run the wire up and tuck it under the headliner. From there, run it down the passenger a-pillar into the passenger kick fuse box. I'd like to use a switched fuse, that way it only comes on when I start the car.

While we're on the subject of being pulled over with radar detectors *Slaps head*, I just recently turned my tones to the loud version. Had my music up too loud on the highway, and the radar was going wild. The song was just changing when I heard it going off and I look to my right to see a cop pointing a radar at me. I was going 31 over. :\
