Default are 4:10's with a Vortech too much?

Here is my current set up

Vortech HO - 470 WHP
18" Bullitts with 275/45/18 on the rear
3:55
5-speed

Would 4:10's help me lower my ET?

Quick answer is yes, but it could hurt torque, also with the 45 series tires you're running slightly more than 4.10 gearing I have to do the math but a quick guess puts you at like 4.20 but I could be wrong, like I said need to do the math. I'll post back after I've done this.

The ratio changes to 4.162 so not drastic but you'll be crossing the traps at about 6300 which is ok if you're tuned, not ok if you're not.

I'm curious how much pressure your running your Vortech to get 470 rwhp ? I was at the dealer and they installing a polished Vortech in a 05 GT Mustang and weren't getting near that.

The HO is a 10 psi kit. Ibelieve I was actually making about 9 psi with it though when we tuned it. The Vortech tune is very conservative. I think we pulled another 15-20 hp out of the tune.

I have never heard of a single person getting more the 400 rwhp out of the H/O kit with the vortech tune.

It took me 14 psi to get 526 rwhp on race gas with 26º of timing and I made 470-480'ish on pump gas with 17º of timing. This was at 14 psi (3.31 pulley)

Frankly, I have a hard time buying your making 470 at 9 psi.

I ran 4.10 gears and never ever had a problem crossing the beams in 4th. Viking is dead on - around 6200-6500 rpm is where you'll be depending on how and where you shift.

But, I have to say, if you really want to increase your times, get rid of the darn street tires and run some ET Streets. You're only going to hurt your 60's adding 4.10's to street tires.

Please, I have better things to do than BS about dyno numbers.I'd be happy to post the dyno sheet tomorrow when I get off duty.

The shop that did my install is veryexperienced with Vortech and has not had any 3V cars with the HO kit under 400 hp canned tune or not.Sounds like you're poo-poo on the Vortechs, which is no skin off my nose. Go to modualrfords.com. Lots of aftercooled Vortech guys there all making about what I do, some making more.

+1 to getting rid of the street tires..... if you really want to improve your times... you need some DRs or slicks...

BTW the 470whp # is on a DnyoJet?

Yesit wason a Dyno Jet. There was more power there if we would have spun the RPMs higher, but I was losing fuel pressure after 5200 rpm. I now have GT500 pumps and could probably pull some morebetter numbers now by virtue of not having to shut it downearly.

What's with all the skeptisism on my dyno #'s with people here? Most of the s/c kits out there that I have seen pushing 10 psi of boost with aftercoolerare all in the 450 & up range depending on tune.
