The shaker 1000 is overpriced POS. Get the 500 so you get the door subs if you want and then replace that HU and 4 speakers with aftermarket if you want the better sound.
it may be overpriced, but that doesn't mean it's a POS... i've yet to hear a factory system sound as good?

besides, if you get a used 05-07, it's just a nice little bonus for one to have it

I agree...Don't waste your money on the Shaker 1000. Save it and buy some better speakers and a better HU.

I bought my GT with the bottom end stereo system, sort of with the intention of having a new head unit put in. I've not done it yet for a few reasons:

1) Cost. I'm kinda broke making payments on the car right now, and have been trying to save some money to be able to afford it.

2) I have yet to find a replacement head unit that will allow me to have my "Line In/Aux" input. Part of this is that I haven't looked too hard at replacement head units (I'm sure there are replacements out there that have this capability), but I don't want to lose that functionality since I use it for my XM Radio and for my gf's iPod when she's in the car.

3) I'm not sure I can justify the cost of it just yet, because I don't listen to regular radio all that much...Usually, I'm listening to the XM, or I'm listening to the motor. And $1300 for the Shaker 1000 system just seems AWFULLY expensive!!!

I think the stock systems in some Mitsubishi's sound very good compared to that of the mustangs. Yes its a good stock system but I have heard much better. We have NO tweeters at all so the highs are very poor. Yes it has bass but that doesnt make it good if you have no highs to balance that out. I wasnt even comparing to stock systems though.....i was saying the cost of the Shaker 1000 compared to aftermarket speakers and HUs is not worth it and cant compare quality wise either. Its $1300 just for a set of subs in the back...thats it....there is nothing else that is added. So you think the 2 subs is the back are worth $1300?

there is something to be said for going aftermarket, but having worked car audio for years, on many cars, once the door panels come off, unless the tech is using the tools for uses, and has access to a new supply of the door pop connectors, the panel doesn't go back on exactly right. it gets slightly warped because they just prty it off. this is established procedure in the industry. changin the head unit i'm fine with, but as far as i'm concerned, the less the car has to be apart, the better.

edit, i was just looking around, does the 05+ not have door pops? is it all screws that hold the door panel on?

I'm sure it's only like a $700 system in real value terms... however, I want it in my financing. I'm going to be buying short throw shifter, whipple supercharger, stripes, some suspension stuff, quarter louvers, side scoops, and *possibly a new front fascia or a chin.... i basically need all my funds for making it faster and handling. I'm not as much of an audio freak anymore, and the shaker 1000 is good enough. Plus, I'd rather have the factory look on the inside for now.

Sounds like you are doing what I have done. the only regret was not getting the S/C first and dropping 10 grand in body mods, rims, and tires. But I am getting the H.O. Whipple this next month!!!!!!!

Heh, well i'm going going to be spending 10 grand in body mods, thats for darn sure. Maybe 1,000 or so, and then another 1600 on tires/rims... but no more than that.

FYI, the door panels are secured with screws. They come off easily and go on securely. I have had mine on and off about 5 times in the past few weeks and there are no rattles or loose areas. Do not overtighten the screws when reinstalling you can easily strip the plastic anchors.

Forget the 1000,use that $1300 to get a better aftermarket one..
I agree with everyone else. Save your money and install a better head unit and speakers and don't forget to dynamat the door panels, trunk and everything else that may rattle - money well spent and you won't regret it.
