Most rusting comes from using an impact gunwithout an impact socket. This knocks off the chrome and exposes the raw steel under.I use Gorilla spline lug nuts which have a spline key that fits perfect over the lug nut and then the impact socket malls up the key and not the lugs. My lugs dont have a scratch on them.

I run splined lugs and a couple of mine are rusting in places. So basically, WATCH the people working on your wheels and make sure they are carful...or if you have the gear mount those suckers yourself. Im going to try getting the rust spots out and putting some clear or somthing on them to cover the exposed bits. Oh and for those of you using Royal Jelly...do NOT get that stuff on any painted surface, It will eat the paint. So if like me you have painted wheels and plan on doing this job without removing the lugs...beware.

Oh and thanks for the link offrdmania, maybe a higher quality set is what I need.

Here you go guys http://www.lugshack.com/gorilla-style-lugs.html
Mustangs require 1/2x20 thread pitch. Dont forget that if your wheels have full cover caps over the lugs that you will need open ended lugs.

The jelly wont do anything on your wheels, chrome is nonpourous so nothing will stick to it. You will just smear jelly on your wheels which will dull them. You clean your chrome with windex. The only time chrome is hard to clean is when it is neglected and it starts to pit and get pot marks. Thats when it starts to rust. So just keep your wheels clean and you shouldnt have any rust issues.
