Default Aftermarket Head Unit Install Pics?

After being thoroughly disappointed in the performance of the Shaker 500 stereo and the system locking up on me, I am considering putting in an aftermarket system. I have always changed out factory systems in the past, but really wanted to keep the clean, stock look with my latest stang. I would love to see some pics of any S197 aftermarket radio installs you guys/girls have done. Also, any problems changing out the unit with the Shaker 500 system like the old Mach 460?

I actually had a shop install my Kenwood 7100 unit but I needn't have bothered. Ford [at present] haven't taken the route of other manufacturers by incorporating the radio control system into the Mustangs digital data bus. So, instead of needing an expensive interface unit, it's the old school method of hooking the speakers/power/antenna directly into the existing loom.
I hung around chatting to the guys while they installed mine (in place of the Shaker 500) and saw minimal wire splicing or stress...... Took them about an hour and that included installing the GPS & Sirius antennas

Pretty easy swap. You can get the harnesses necessary from several sources....I personally got my HU from Crutchfield, which included free harnesses, dash kit, everything needed....

I replaced the Shaker 500, replaced the door and rear deck speakers (kept the 8 in subs in the doors), added XM, added a sub in the trunk and 2 amps. The installation and wiring is straight forward. Use the F150 radio install kit and wiring harness. You can go single DIN with a nice storage pocket below or double DIN. In the Audio forums there are great instructions on how to access everything. If you have done car stereo before there is nothing new or special here.

Yeah, I love having the cubby below the radio (pics above), but someone needs to come out with a nice door for it.....a nice pivoting hinged door would be great. I need to put some felt or something in the bottom of it. Get tired of picking everything off the floor after hard acceleration....

Thanks for the pics. I am not worried about the actual install as I have installed my fair share of equipment in all of my vehicles. I was worried about the way the dash kit would look in the car. Does your dash kit match the rest of the waterfall? The texture looks different in the picture, but this may just be the picture.

This is what you need http://www.egrips.com/ Just put a couple of strips in the cubby and nothing will move or shift. I also use it to prevent my XM antenna from sliding around on the dash. No muss, no fuss, no mess. Highly recommend!!!

The texture is a bit different, but just slightly. I think it looks more pronounced in the photos because it was brand spankin new......It blends perfectly with the center console......
