Default How much damage to my car?

So, I was on vacation back in march and a drunk driver side swiped my rental car (new mustang convertable). He ripped the mirror off and scratched it + put a couple dents up the whole length of the car. These pics do a pretty poor job.. but how much do you think a rental company would charge for this damage? I have absolutely no idea, but I'm gonna throw this number out - $2000?. But, I'm sure rental places jack you, and they're gonna want to do the most expensive repairs possible. I figured you guys would be able go give me a good estimate, so thanks in advance =)!

Why should you have to pay for it? Even if you didn't get the rental insurance your insurance should cover you. My guess is $800 for fender and mirror installed.

drunk driver's insurance should pay for it unless they didn't find him.... you really shouldn't be liable for anything based on the following:

1. your own auto insurance might cover you on rented vehicles (and you might be responsible for deductible if its in your policy)
2. the credit card you used might have insurance on rented vehicles.
3. if you purchased the extra rental insurance from the rental company (always a waste of money if you know you're covered from your own ins and cc)

His attorney wants me to give an estimate for the ammount he owes me. I need to give him a number by thursday and avis said it could be another month before they send me the bill. Only $800? good.. but I was under the impression they would charge alot more.. god knows how they'll get all of the scratches out, you cant see them in the picture very well.. but there are scratches on both left side fenders and all up the door.

DO NOT give his attorney an estimate... it is their duty to repair the car to original condition. If you give an estimate, you might be held liable for whatever the difference is depending on the laws of your state. As you are not the owner of the vehicle, it is up to AVIS to provide the attorney with a damage estimate.

Fortunatley, my father is a lawyer. I'll ask him about that later... but his attorney says that if I dont give him the ammount he owes me by thursday, the only way I can get money from him is to take him to civil court. I would rather give a high estimate to him now, that he can reject if he choses, than wait and take the chance of not getting anything or enough to pay for it all. I also want this to be over and out of my mind. Can you see the damages, at an overpriced repair shop, sparing no expense, coming to more than $2500?

Yeah... definitely consult your father first before you give any answers. I think its ridiculous that Avis can't get you an estimate in a timely manner. I would call a ford dealer or body shop, and ask about surface repairs to the rear quarter, replacement of a mirror, and paint for the whole side....If you explain the situation, they might give you an estimate over the phone.

you shouldn't have to get screwed etiher way. thats bull****. tell the drunkards attorney to go **** up a flagpole, he'll get the estimate when your damn well ready. just have AVIS fight it out with the drunkards attorney.
