I am experiencing gear whine while in second gear only. Is the problem usually related to one gear ratio and should I have it fixed asap! It's not extremely loud but you know it's there when in second.?? Also if I do have it repaired should I up for better gears while they are repairing it??

That seems odd are you sure it's gear whine and not your tranny?

 

+1 I can not think of a reason for gear whine only while in 2nd other than the 2nd gear itself.

 

I'm %98 sure it's rear end. Never had a tranny whine before though. Whats the best way to find out??

 

If your car is still under warranty take it to the dealer, if not I'd say check the diff oil and add some friction modifier fluid to see if it changes the whine sound, try to drive downhill to see if you can hear the whine in other gears.

 

My 07 GT/CS does the exact same thing in 2nd gear. it quiets down instantly when it releases and goes to 3rd, and it onlydoes it after itswarm.it does sound like its below the shifter and not the rear-end. Speaking of rear-end. There is a TSB for the 8.8 limited slip. 07-22-8 Moan/groan during low speed turning. Depending on the build date you get a better friction modifier lube or a new clutch pack. Mine goes in next week for the TSB and I have requested for a tech to listen to the 2nd gear whine. I'll let you know what they say.

 

I had this TSB carried out a few weeks back. The current friction pads are different to the older ones so it's a one time only fix. I actually paid the extra in parts value and had them install the GT500 carbon pads.

If it only whines in second gear, it's not the back end, unless it's a puerile trick the Tranny and the Rear end are playing on you [8D]
