remote start?
i know absolutely nothing about remote starts. if i buy one what do i need to do to install it. i saw one on http://www.partscheap.com/mustangaccessories05.htm. do i need to install something to make it start up, like in the keyhole or just it just start up once i get it programed and set to my cars frequency.and i was wonder what is a securilock it says"Remote Start, Remote Keyless Entry & Vehicle Security. Requires SecuriLock Kit."
I have remote start on mine, but I have an auto. I love it and it works great. Had it installed professionally. When I was shopping around I was told that you can only do this on an auto because of the clutch issues. There may be one or two systems on the market that can get around this, but don't quote me on that. It is wired in to the starter, so there is no "keyhole" installation. The original key is computer chipped so that it is the only key that can start the car. As far as how it works, mine works in conjunction with my alarm, where you can start the car with the alarm still set so you don't have to worry about somebody getting in and taking off with it. You need to disengage the alarm before getting in the car, and then there is another security feature where you have to insert the key before stepping on the brake or the car shuts down, once again only the chipped key will work. I think one of these security features is what the SecuriLock kit is all about. Hope some of this information is useful.
Some crazies have installed it on their manuals. Their logic is that they park their Mustangs in a flat area so they don't need to be in gear. They just leave it in nuetral with the parking brake on.
The problem with this is that when they are on a public street they may park it the same way, forgetting to put it in gear! Then the car rolls down hill and crashes! Or they DO leave it in gear and then when coming back to the car later forget and use the remote to start their now cold car! OOPS!

When I bought my 07 it was an accessory you could install but only available for auto transmission, the autos have sensors to detect if the shifter is in drive, parking neutral etc, not so the manual trannys for the reasons stated before. However everything is possible I guess you can mod that or any other system to be used on a manual but not very wise think of valet parking, kids fooling around with your keys etc.
