So I got my Corsa's today... heavy and cool looking. Anyway, I jacked the front up, inserted jack stands, jacked the back up, inserted Jack stands, decided to get the front higher so I blocked the jack and starting pumping. Well, with the hot day, and my blacktop, the jack sunk in on one side and the jack tipped over causing the whole front of the car to fall to the right, right on my foot! Had I parked 2 inches closer to the house, it would've crushed my torso, and just like in that movie, I would've told FoMoCo to "swing away". So as I type this with my sprained foot, I feel lucky that I didn't die but I'm really pissed off because jack stand 1 probably crushed something underneath (haven't checked yet) and jack stand 2 ripped my driver side plastic skirt off of it's bolts in the front. The morals of the story? BLACKTOP IS EVIL!!! and BUY RAMPS!!! ow....

 

always use a lot of caution when under your car, you easily could have been crushed. good to hear your not dead

were you just installing axleback? you don't even need to jack it up for that. I did mine in my driveway at night [:-]

 

Glad to hear you're fine(phew!). Yeah, I hate jack-stands! Although sometimes you gotta use them[&o].
Sorry to hear your baby took a hit, but it can be fixed, I'm sure not the same can be said about you!

Yeah... I'm installing only axleback but I have a hanger on mycats that vibrates sometimes, so I was trying to get at it to heat it up and bend it, Getting the car up will be MUCH easier now with the ramps... I can change my own oil too!

 

Thats why I only use the lifts at my work. Thats the last thing I want to hear is an accident with anMF member.

When I was opening this thread I was calm and cool figuring 'oh just another stupid red light runner that we have to dodge". Then I saw the word "jack" and my stomach about turned over!!! I hate getting under the car (though I do it every week) and just have a general fear of jacks! Jack stands tend to ease my tension, but your story didn't help! lol.

Anyways, everybody watch out!!! Working under your car and having it fallIS NO DIFFERENT THAN SKYDIVING AND HAVING YOUR PARACHUTE NOT OPEN! The only difference is, at least in skydiving you'll die quickly!
