Default Whipple using water

Hi all.

I had Lidio at Autoternative fit my Whipple recently.
Since then I've driven perhaps 300 miles on it. I've had to top up the Intercooler bottle a couple of times, I didn't know if it was 'burping' itself so wasn't too worried. However, I've had to put in about a pint in total so far, that can't be right can it?

As a test, I topped it up to the full line this evening and went out for a 20 mile run, mostly steady but with the odd blast. I see that the level is about 1cm below the full line now.

I'm a bit concerned that it's throwing it into the inlet tract, I see no leaks or puddles under the car and I can't smell leaked coolant.

Any ideas?

Marcus

Well if it's burning coolant, there should be some white smoke coming from the tailpipe.

Can't see any smoke/steam but then again 1cm of water over 20 miles isn't much, I imagined the piping hot exhaust would eliminate any water at that kind of rate.
Problems like this craze me, I wish it would show it's handand eitherquit doing it or throw it's pacifier out the pram entirely and dump the whole lot.

How much have you added total so far?I would think there's quite a bit of volume to fill up considering a full reservior tank, intercooler and heat exchanger. It may be that you just need to keep circulating it to appreciate each component'sfull capacity.

I hope you're right, indeed part of me is thinking that the intercooler is still burping a little.
I don't know the full capacity of the system as I didn't originally fill itbut I guess it's a fair amount, there are two intercoolers plus the pipes and header tank as you say. I've added perhaps a pint so far.......

There wasalready apost this week about another new Whipple install that did indeed leak water from the intercooler into the intake. This may be your problem, but I hope not.

i recommend you call your whipple supplier
and explain your issue. your supplier will either
offer some ideas, or will call whipple on your
behalf to determine a course of action.
-
i also recommend you not drive the car anymore, because
if it is the I.C. core that's leaking, your burning the coolant
in the combustion chamber and even though it's not much,
there's no reason to do it if you don't have to.
-
everything will work out fine

I'll try to get a local shop to pressure test the intercooler water system, that will tell me if it's leaking.
It'll be a real drag if I have to drive back to Detroit to get it fixed

that's acceptable....

now, if it comes back that it's leaking, it's not the
end of the world, i'm sure whipple will take care
of you and someday it will just be an unpleasant
memory....

I hope that if it is leaking, it won't kill my O2 sensors or Cats
