Yes, it is not an iPod jack, it is a 3.5mm cable jack. It will accept anything that has a standard headphone output. Most mp3 players, tape players, microphones, etc.
God only knows why you'd do the last two, but they're examples.

This is the best option I found a mini stereo to mini stereo retractable cable. There are a number of benefits, including...
1) retractable length.. all you realy need is a foot, but most of the cables are 4+ feet long. This allows you to pull to the size you require.. in my case just enough to stay in the cup holder or long enough for the kids in the back.
2). the cable is flat, so it doesnt get crimped in the seat rest. I already had one standard cable ruined due to the design flaw.
3). when not it use it takes up only a little bit of space in the console.

I have a 2006 w/ a shaker 500, can the aux be made for a usb port, or does it have to be for an ipod?

I use the AUX IN port on the stereo right now for my XM Radio...But I'm thinking that I should've gone to see if I could find a higher quality cable than the one I've got right now. The sound level through the cheap Radio Shack cable requires me to crank the volume almost all the way up on the stock radio, (Line Out on the XM Radio is all the way to the maximum) versus using either AM/FM or playing a CD.
This is a temporary fix, as I plan on getting a new head unit and adding XM Radio as a direct plug in to the new head unit. I just have to save for the radio.

The port on my 07 works great, poke the auxiliary button and hear your IPOD music, great for long trips. You can purchase a IPOD remote for less that 50 bucks, that solves the cable problem.
