Slotted rotors don't help with heat per-se, but they help get rid of the gasses produced during braking, which would otherwise get trapped between the pads and rotors. Some also argue that they create a bit more friction.

And +1 on what Virgule said - my cooling ducts are in the mail as we speak-

It won't be instant.....It will just wear the rotors out(actually, it will warp them) faster than the stock pads, but you will be able to stop better. I say it's a good swap. I put Ceramic pads on the Wifes Escape, and about every 20000 miles I'm doing a brake repair, either turning the rotors, or replacing them.
