Default SCT XCAL2

I have heard contradicting info on this one so please help me....

If I buy a used XCAL2 and the last owner as returned to stock tune.

Can I used on my car?
Is their a limit number of time an XCAL can be re-used (I herd they had 5 lives only) ?
How do I clear everything from it and backup my car in it ?

Thanks,

as long as it is returned to stock you can use it as much as you want on your car. if it is returned to stock, it will automatically back up your car when you plug it in and upload a new tune.

Doesn’t the processor code programmed into the Xcal need to match the car you connecting to?

Yes but if it is returned to stock then it will read the new pcm code as a fresh first time use!

Interesting. Then why do they want your processor code when the setup the Xcal for you for the first time?

i believe it is so that the tune(s) you upload, has
the same pcm code as your vehicle

Yes and it is my understanding if it does not the engine will not run and you cannot reload the stock tune back in.

That is when it is a blank tuner and the person tuning customizes for your car! The SCT tuner that comes from the factory with 3 pre loaded tunes reads your pcm automaticly

OK, so let me recap what I think you told me:

The XCAL itself has no program and can be used on any type of mustangs.

The tunes are specific to each cars because of the different computer codes, it's not the XCAL

Therefore XCALcan be reused if the old owner has returned to his stok tune.
- When connecting an XCAL from a car that has been returned to stock, the XCAL will react as if it was brand new and backup mystock tune

There seems to be no limit on how many time you can re-use your XCAL, as long as the previous car is returned to stock before installing on a new one.

How do I clear everything from it and backup my car in it ?

Of course I will need Tunes for my car with the proper computer code, but that I can order on-line for the guys that are specialized to do that. The tunes from the previous owner are useless...

Does it make sense ?

My XCal arrived today. Now I've got to read how to load my 93 octane config.
