is this a joke post?

Somehow no matter which forum you go to every time you post about something you will come across at least one dic head
And you sir qualify for "Head Dick". What an arrogant jerk! Not everyone is a gear head! Remember this next time you are made fun of for showing ignorance on a subject. Ignorance is not a crime...stupidity should be!

NOT YOU Olvanish!
Um, I'm confused...is "not everyone is a gear head" directed at the OP or Olvanish? It seems like it would be directed at the latter, to defend the OP, although then you wrote "not you Olvanish"...and the same for "arrogant jerk?"...I'm lost here...I guess the question isn't as far off as some (examples: is it okay to remove my throttle return spring, and if we have 3v per cyl, how many are intake and how many are exhaust, if I get 4.10s will I lose my posi, etc) taking into consideration that both engines are in the modular family...the majority of the responses to this thread are pretty constructive, so again I must say the question isn't that far off...or maybe I'm wrong to assume most of us will answer even naive questions tastefully?

I've read a few articles that said the new 3 valve flows as well (on a bench) as the older 4 valve version. The BulletMustangwas a 2 valve with a different exhaust, hence the 265 rating instead of the 260. Like someone said up above, if you want the benifit of better heads, go find a head/cam package and get it done. Probably be between 4-5 grand for the entire package, purchase and install/tuning. It would seem easier to buy a blower. But to each their own!

As far as the comments above, there are idiots here, just like anywhere else. Most of us have learned to ignore them.

To answer the guys question directly, yes, the 4V heads will bolt to the 4.6 block in your S197. However, you would need to change out the pistons, crankshaft, exhaust, intake, front cover, timing components, belt-driven accessories, computer, etc.

Because of all of these changes it would be cheaper for you to find a complete motor with PCM from a junkyard out of a 2001-2002 Cobra or 2003 Mach 1. As someone mentioned earlier the Bullitt only had the 2V heads that the stock GT used.

Just in case you were wondering, you can also slap your stock 3V heads on a 5.4L block. As mentioned above that would require the changing of many attaching parts.

The modular engines are extremely modular to a point. However belt driven accessories and PCM control is not modular at all. Any swap of heads, intake and block will require a substantial amount of PCM work and electrical wiring changes along with the bolt-on stuff.

Exactly why would you want to do this?

+1 to the bascho. It would be much easier if the 3v heads were dohc, but they aren't It is veeeeerrrryyyy complicated to go from an sohc setup to dohc, it is not just a head swap. This would not be worth the effort.

Yeah, I'm curious as to why too. I can see someone usinga cast iron, earlier 4.6L block to build a stout F.I. 3V, but to go and convert to a DOHC 4V sounds like too much work and $$$ for what gains may be seen(most likely above 7K rpms).
We all aren't very well versed in all aspects of S197-dom, some guys/girls are engine gurus, others know electronics and suspension/brakes tickle others fancies. Some aren't into cars, but have become more curious because of owning a Mustang. I hope the day I ask a legitimate question that some may see as trivial, I'm not lambasted.

OK, to take this further..... (The thread, not the flaming)

How much work would it be to take a crate 32 valve 2002/3/4 Cobra motor with ancilleries (I've seen them for sale) and drop it into an 05/6/7 ?

It's essentially wiring harness and OBC right [?] This is a mod I've been seriously considering given that the 32 valve is such a superior motor in every way.
