Yea, don't lump all of us in Red's nut shell. 6 qts is correct for the GT, and I put in about 6.25 qts. I like to top mine off and have it on the upper hashmark line. Little more volume.

Eh, legally just gets like that sometimes...

one thing to keep in mind...it's in the owner's manual but it warrants mentioning anyway...yes the car takes six quarts even, but the "safe range" on the dipstick for theV8is actutally at the BOTTOM of the hashmarks, as opposed to the top of the hashmarks, which is whatjust about every other vehicle on the planet uses. When I picked up my GT from the dealer, I pulled into an auto parts store to get a locking gas cap and checked all fluids/tire psi's after the vehicle had been sitting for a bit, and got nervous when I saw the oil level and thought "damn, the PDI guy didn't top off the oil, should I go back and complain?" just thought I'd mention it in case you check/change your oil and it's not to the top of the hashes...
When I put 6 quarts in mine, the oil level is in the middle of the 2 hash marks. Not the very bottom. Maybe your dipstick is slightly shorter than it should be. Cause if its at the very bottom of the hash marks, how do you know if it only needs a little or alot if it burns any oil up? Any oil consumption will stop marking the dipstick it your situation.

"it pushes up toward the back on the right side, there is room."

I'll try it tonight. There should be something in the owner's manual about where to put the owner's manual.[align=right]

actually after my first oil change the level is just shy of the top of the hashmarks...I was just relaying owner's manual information. And anytime anyone says my dipstick is slightly shorter than it should be, I tell her the money's on the dresser, now get the hell out lol...

Did my first Stang oil change last Friday. She took 6 quarts which ran the level about 2/3 up to the top hash mark. Since I haven't driven it much yet, I'll top it off soon. But six plus an extra quart on-hand is a safe bet.

That is another topic. Could have been a 6 banger and 30W is what is needed there.

Ok so at the risk of sounding like a total tard. how much oil goes in the S197? I'm about to do the first oil change on my own.
For everyone who doesn't have an owners manual:
