Gears and Torque???

RE: Gears and Torque???
The answer is yes and no. Changing the gear to a higher ratio does in fact increase torque at the wheels, thus providing quicker acceleration, however, you won't see this on a dyno chart. Dyno's correct for torque multiplication in the drive train by comparing the engine rpm and roller speed -"rear wheel torque" (rwtq) on a dyno is actually a bit of a misnomer as it's really just showing you engine torque minus drivetrain losses rather than absolute rwtq.

i know changing the rear end ratio doesn't give you any horsepower... but does it goive you any torque??? Seems like it must... the car does PULL harder...

BTW - exhaust is in front of the flywheel IMO.

^^^ If I'm not mistaken, the whole pointof gearing shorter is to maiximize the time your car spends in its powerband...
but I do know this....uh...make car go fast...lol...

BTW - in reduces your top end

RE: Gears and Torque???
Pretty much all good answers here. The ratio multiplies your torque to the ground. The higher the number, obviously, the more torque so the faster you can accelerate. It also does help to get you into your powerband quicker.
