What do they call the mustang s197 & the saleen s281? its it the engine type ?sorry for the dumb question.[&o]

 

s197 is a body style designation

281 is just the size of the engine (4.6 302=5.0) S=Saleen
S281 means Saleen 4.6

S197 just body model

 

As howarmat said, S197 is the internal platform name for the current Mustang, the Saleen is also a S197, but it's model name, S281, is equivalent to our cars being aGT model.

The GT and the Saleen are built on the S197 internally-named platform. They both have a 281 cubic inch engine.

Saleen is naming itself based on the cubic inches of the engine - 281, and adding an S to it.

Your GT is also a 281.... But not named after it.
