GT500 Markups Gone?
I guess you can now get a GT500 for almost MSRP at some dealerships --
I stopped by a SoCal dealership last night looking for a used Expedition or Navigator for my wife. Since Icouldn't see any decent SUVs on their used lot,I never got out of my car and started to turn around in the parking lotto leave. I was literally still in my car when a salesman asked if he could help me. Just then, I saw TWO GT 500 hardtops a ways behind him. I asked if they were already sold, and he said "You want one? The manager just wants to get rid of these last two. You can take one for $7,500 over." This was intruiging.
So I got out of my car to find out more. Turns out this dealership sold 5 GT500s (some of them at $35k over MSRP). But the buying frenzy died down and these last two have just been sitting on the lot. Their window sticker still had a markup of $35k, but the salesman said they're not moving and they want them sold before the '08 Mustangs start arriving. I then asked for a manager to get a feel for what the deal was. His OPENING offer was $7,500, without me even saying a word. He basically implied that a deal could be done for $2,500 over. And he said 0% financing for 3 years might still be available from Ford.
So there you go. Seek, and you shall find.

Payments would be $1,250/mo if you finance $45k. And 500hp don't come cheap from the factory.
If your credit is good enough, they'll give you 0% for the GT500 (or a Saleen, for that matter).

Well are you going to take it?

I seriously thought about it. But I love the Saleen too much. I drove Mustang GTs for 16 years straight before I saved up enough for my current ride. I don't want to start getting ahead myself by jumping into a Shelby, too. And I can't justify keeping a Shelby and a Saleen while my wife drives our kids around in an '00 Durango.
Btw, nice pic from our recent cruise in your signature! I think I was parked one or two cars over from you in that shot...

That makes me feel better...[&o][&o][&o]
Seriously, I'm glad they are finally going down. If ford sells enough of them, I might be able to find decent mods for it in the future.
Was it Chartrand Ford? I looks like they have 1/2 of the production of Gt500s available!
