Default Tire sizes

Hey everyone. I just bought my GT premium and I was a bit surprised at the narrow tire sizes. I wasn't surprised, however, to note that I spin the back tires like all-getout if I get a little excited. I want to put some wider profiles. The stock tires are 235/55/17 on a 17 by 8.0 rim. A guy at the dealership told me that if I want to go with 265s I have to have over an 8.0 width wheel. However, the tire sites on the net offer even 275s for this wheel! Is that right? What's the widest tire you could fit on my stock aluminum rims? What do you guys have? Thanks all!

275 will be the highest recommended.

That's what I thought. What I need is an authoritative and definitive answer. Can I fit a 265 tire on my 17x8.0j rims? If yes, then that's what's going in the rear. I'm going with 245s in the front, and I know that's not a problem. Any definitive answer folks? Anyone has 265s on their stock aluminum rims?

Thanks, but expert Im not sure, lol.
A 265/45 Will safely fit, but I dont think thats a real common available size. Also its .8" less diameter than stock, speedo recalibration recommened, and seing it on a car 1st would be recommended

All I want is to get rid of the spinning tires between 1-2 and 2-3 gear. I can't put the power to the road! I thought a larger profile tire would help. I'm not really looking to look like a Viper or anything that silly-looking. What are you running on your rear wheels, Stoenr?

Alot has to do with the actual tires themselves. Also going to that 50 series tire will put a little more rubber on the road.
I took off the stock BFG's 235/50/18 and Mounted Goodyear Eagle F1 GS D3's 255/45/18. The widest recommended for the narrow 8.5" stock wheel.
Still plenty of wheel spin when I want it
