I think the white ball looks kinda old school nostalgic like. It seems to go well with the old school style of the car but I really like the stock one also but it's really a matter of personal taste.

 

Move the top of the boot up so it starts between the H and the U. It covers more of the stick that way. See if you like that better.

It is unusual for one not to like the classic white ****!!

 

I have a Hurst chrome T-handle on it. Definately looks old school, get lots of positive comments, can bang the hell out of the gears. It burns like hell after sitting in the sun all day though...

 

Wow! UGLY? Never heard that before. But you do have options, like mentioned, you can get the black ball, or a T shifter hande. Ck summit racing and any other place that sells hurst.

 

+1 I have the brushed Tee handle and it get really hot, I keep a detailing towel in the car to cover it when it's parked.
I didn't like the look of the white ball either, a black one would have probably looked good nut I like the feel of the Tee handle.

 

I really didn't like the white shift **** either, it just seemed out of place in my black interior, I also switch to the Hurst tee-handle, it still has a retro look to it and makes grabbing gears more fun, only draw back was in the hot south florida sun it got mighty hot and I ended up with the Hurst name branded in the palm of my hand, now I just cover it during the day with a towel and it stays cool to the touch.

+1 on hating the white ball in the s197, it just looks totaly out of place. [:'(]
Every option I have seen mentioned in here all look like ***, the t-handle looks just as bad as the white ball..
This is whyI prolly won't change my shifter.
