Anyone have any insight into the resale value of these ( 2005, M/T, Mustang GT Convertible premium) Cars?
Was looking to trade it in for a new one so I could get the heated seats, as well as the other new features such as the HID headlights. My car has about 7k miles and all the dealer would give towards a new purchase would be about 13k. So I am going the private sale route and I do not seem to be getting offers over 17k. The car is perfect. I see the ebay auctions turning into offers for 2k - 5k on low mileage cars.
Do you think the market is flooded, oversupply? It just sucks to see what appears to be almost 50% depreciation over 2 years.

It may also depend on your area or the dealership your looking to buy from. I traded my 2006 4.0L auto in a few months ago and got offers of 14,000, 16,200, and 16,000 all on the same day from Ford dealerships that are all the same area.

The sales price of used cars is an interesting thing but can be frustrating for owners wanting to sell. The more people that your car appeals to the better chance you have of getting top dollar because of the demand. In your case I’m sure you like your car but there are fewer people that what a convertible so that limits the market group. It has been my experience if you put all your stock parts back on more people will be interested in your car and you will get a better selling price. You can sell the mod parts separate and get some money back on them.

Exactly...You can put everything you want in aftermarket even factory..just do that...And save Money for more Mods

It would be cheaper to buy the parts you want, and have them installed.

1. Your dealer is on crack. He offered 13500 for an 05 GT vert 5 speed stick? Call the cops he is high.

2. Find another dealer, and tell them you want to trade but only got offered 24500 in trade value, and you want more to buy today.

Good Luck.

I say hold on to it. My 2007 Auto, Premium GT Convertible, with 1800 miles was appraised at $23K by Carmax (they're all on crack) and couldn't find a dealer willing to give me more than $25K. I was going to sell it to recoup some positive equity but decided it's cheaper to keep it.

1) We're talking trade-in which is the lowest value. Private party gets you a little more then of course there is retail which is what the dealer will sell for. The dealer will always get more when they sell it than private party because it's a dealer, they can provide some sort of guarantee or short term warranty so even if the OEM warranty is expired the buyer can come back and have something fixed. Private party is AS-IS.

2) Good luck with that one. If you want more than 24K for your car, you need to private party sell it.

I seriously don't get why people buy a brand new car then two years later want to trade it in for a new car. No wonder most people these days can't save up for their house/condo and spend their lives renting.

Mdg: You mentioned "positive equity" which tells me you at least have your head screwed on right. Hopefully you have a Positive net worth too. For those of you that don't have a clue what that means. I rest my case.

Sorry to rant but enjoy what you have peeps.

Check the classified sections of the various Mustang forums. Based on what I've seen you should definitely get over 20k. Or you could just add heated seats and HID lights much cheaper.

My Ford dealer here in Orlando has a LL 05 GT coupe on the lot in good condition and they're asking $24K!! That's the sticker price back in 05 when it was new or just about. I'm interested into getting another Lime so I went and they dropped it to $22500 if I pay cash. They hold the value here in FL, but that dealer is greedy still.
And you never have to give away a conv. down here in FL, so the market fluctuates depending of geography.

im in canada, so totally different market, but i bought my 05 gt lime, for 29500a year ago, and took it in to test the waters at another dealer last week, they offered 25400, i think its holding not bad because that means they would sell it for close to what i paid.
