I just had a 05 mustang and a f-150 with this problem. Both had bad clusters.

Got my car back last night...only got a diagnosis though. Unfortunately, Ford service guys weren't adequate enough to find my warranty in the glovebox where I told them it was! So I have to take her back next week to have the work done. But they confirmed the following needs to be replaced next week:

-Entire Instrument Cluster (for the speedometer issue, which still isn't working)
-Fuel Level Sender (for the gauge reading inaccurately, still isn't working too)
-Shaker 500 stereo (for the skipping and bad read disc issues)
-Rear rotors need to be replaced or re-surfaced (for the brake squeeling issue)
-Door handle springs (for the door handles not retracting appropriately)

I'll keep everyone posted when the work gets done. I can't wait to have everything fixed! Good thing I drive a manual so I have an idea of how fast I'm going

Got a call back from the manager...

I'm really disappointed. I have to bring the car in AGAIN tomorrow so the warranty's insurance company can inspect my car before authorizing work to be done WTF!

The warranty will ONLY cover:

-The Intrument Cluster for the speedometer issue
-The Fuel Level Sender
-The Shaker

It WON'T cover:

-The door handles [:@]
-The brakes/rotors

They need it for the whole day and then if they authorize the OK, I bring it back again next week for the work. Pretty irritated...anyone go through this???

it will happen depending which extended warranty company you have.

fyi, my 2002 GT did the same thing.

first fuel gauge went to zero

then speedo went out

check engine light came (IIRC)

they ordered a gauge cluster under warranty, said it was driveable, 2 days later the POS died on me 40 miles away from home. new gauge cluster all was ok.

They're all easy fixes. The only issue I see you having is when replacing a cluster you have to order one and have the mileage loaded to it from the vender. We won't allow a car to leave when waitng for the part because then the mileage won;t match. Usually we can get them the next day though if ordered in th A.M.
