2006 GT oil?
What oil you choose depends on a multitude of factors. Personally, I have owned and driven cars for 35 years and have NEVER had an oil-related engine problem. And during that time I have always used whatever the manufacturer recommended. If you plan to keep your car for 10 or more years you may have a different perspective.
Being that mine is financed for 5 yrs. at $290/month. And I'm supercharging at 10k miles. I'll take all the extra protection I can get
. Unless someone creams my car between now and then. That's the dice roll you take with a fairly expensive mod'd car....

They recommend that for both the 5.4 and 4.6L engines?

That's very interesting. I've never heard of 5w-50 being recommended for s/c apps. I've heard of 5-10w-30 mobil 1 for Saleen's in their user docs, but never 5w-50. I guess it depends on how you run your car on a regular basis. I can't see anything over 5w-40 in a syn being recommended, even for FI.
I surely wouldn't second guess ford or even more, JDM for that matter. I would run that through for 5k miles and send a sample to blackstone or Dyson (even better). They will tell you what is happening in your engine and what to do about it (viscosity, brand, etc.).
go check out blackstone's site: http://www.blackstone-labs.com/
and Dyson's: http://www.dysonanalysis.com/
Blackstone is cheaper (~$25 if I remember correctly), but Dyson will actually analyze the oil AND provide their recommendations. Blackstone just basically tells you what is happening to your oil engine w/o giving you recommendations. When you contact them, they will send you a "sample kit" for sending the used oil sample back to them.
I've used Blackstone and still have one of their kits around, but think I will try Dyson next time...
