Is this why I am having so much trouble aligning the tips?

 

it could be, but i've had plenty of trouble before getting my tips perfect on my 05.... with various setups.

 

Just checked mine and I have metal with rubber, looks like all is good. Not sure when they switched over, but mine was made in 4/07

 

Just so you know, the MAC's do not come with new hangers, just new clamps. You can re-use the factory hangers or order replacement stainless steel ones (I got mine from American Muscle). I figured as long as I was taking the old ones off, why not upgrade while I was at it. I also did not use the clamps that came with the MAC's - ordered preformed band clamps from JEG's. The MAC ones will probably suffice, but the JEG's ones look better and I was more confident that I would get a good seal with them. I love the sound of my MAC's, hope you enjoy yours.
