Default Vin numbers

I contacted Ford wondering what the vin breakdown on my Mustang was mostly to find out what the last six numbers stood for. They gave me the whole breakdown. Here it is:

1-3 World Manufacturing foot #?
4 restraint type
5-7 Body type
8 engine
9 check digit?
10 year
11 plant (1 being Flat Rock?)
12-17 sequence

I was wondering because I have a fairly low 12-17. And I hope this doesn't mean I can look forward to the problems the early cars have had.

Anybody able to elaborate more on the vin# breakdown?

Why would you even care about what youre VIN means. I have the whole breakdown in one of my Stang books. But i dont really feel like looking around for it. Just check online on a search engine. The last coulple numbers means which number it was procduced.

Jammer, that's good info. thanks. My last 6 digits are 100732. I got mine the 30th of October so I think it's very unlikelly Ford built over 100,000 Mustangs at that time. What do you think? BTW, I haven't experienced any major issues with mine.

1fast, it doesnt mean they start at "0" lol. they might have started the run number at 100,000. You could have number 732. Im not saying they DID start at 100,000. but just a example. You understand?

Casper, I'm not as dumb as I sound....errr write... hmmmm..Obviously the first car is not going to be zero. Starting the run at 100,000 is what I was thinking.

Casper, I stated the reason for me wondering what the breakdown was was I wanted to know what the sequence numbers were. And I thought someone else in the forum might find the information useful if not interesting. Plus I'm an information junky. I like to research.

1fast05gt, the 1 in your 100732 is the plant. Flat Rock, Michigan. Mine is 100379 which is the lowest I've seen. I haven't had any problems either but I've only put 100 miles on it in the month I've owned it.

Speaking of info junkies. If I've got a GT Vert with a sequence number of 68941, how can I tell if it was one of the first... 35, say?

You could call the Ford like I did. They may know when the first ones were made by vin#.
