black soot

RE: black soot
Road dust it is... Soot in the tips, dust on the valance and bumper. I've had it since the test drive. Just driving between the car wash and my house (about 3 miles) the dust is there on the bumper when I park in my garage. There's obviously some updraft and a rolling effect as air exits the rear valance. IMHO this causes dust and dirt from the road surface to be deposited on the bumper area.
Clean your exhaust tips and the rear bumper, then drive the car a few miles. You should see dust on the bumper and none on the tips (it takes a while longer for it to reform on the exhaust). This should provide proof that it's a road dust issue and not an exhaust issue.

If inside your exhaust tips is clean and shiny and there is no soot in them then what you have on your rear bumper is road soot/dirt. Think about it, if what was on your bumper was coming out the exhaust then it would have to also be on and in your exhaust. If you exhaust is clean inside and out then the soot on the bumper is coming off the road. It is a mixture of tire wear dust, diesel soot, and just plain old dirt.

I agree with you. I can was/wax my car (blue) and then go drive it. Pipes are shiny clean. Dust/road dirt is on the back AND the front and hood. I think it depends on where you drive. Very dusty out here. But, the residue on the car is more of a brownish color instead of the sooty black from a rich exhaust.
