Gears are to get you in your power ban at the end of the track. Usually you can tell what gears you need by doing a 1/4 or a dyno. I wouldnt do 4.30's

If youwant to beshifting every2 seconds get the 4.30's.
4.10's is a bit much as well depending on what route your going.

I dont know why people think their cars will be faster with a taller gear......i just dont get it.

Personally I have 3.55's, I wouldnt change them if it was done for free. While the guy next to me is shifting into 4th ill be halfway into 3rd passsing him gracefully.
because it DOES make you faster. it's proven over and over again. all other things being equal, a higher gear (4.30 vs. 3.55) will cause you to accelerate faster. simple physics. however, there are better ways to make your car faster (i think) such as s/c or such...
That is the most false information i have ever read.

Stock for stock my money is on the 3.55 guy passing the 4.30 guy. 4.30 just makes you shift more, and while 4.30 guy is shifting 3.55 guy is full throttle waving at him.

He's correct; higher gearing will accelerate you faster. It's proven on the dragstrip to take .2-.3 off ofa 1/4 mile time. the physiscs prove it too.

So why not just go 4.56?

It all depends on your car and mods. Every car has an ideal gear ratio.....and its not always the higher the better.

I think anything lower than 4.10 would be overkill for a Street/Hwy DD.

Some of you guys have got to be kidding me.

DON'T FEAR THE GEAR, period.
The steeper the gear, the faster the car. Traction permitting, the 4.30 car will be faster than the identical 4.10, 4.56 faster than the 4.30, 4.88 faster than the 4.56, and the 5.13 faster than the 4.88. Above that, the gains severely diminish, and the time it takes to shift becomes a factor to an extent.

Let's race our 21-speed mountain bikes. You start in gear 3-7 (highest gear), and I'll start in 1-1 and shift through ever gear on the way up. I wonder who is going to win the race. Alternatively, next time you are at a light with someone, try racing starting in 2nd gear and see how much better you fare compared to using first too but having to make the 1-2 shift.

Hopefully the common sense will dispell the rumors.

Edit: I should clarify that with many cars, including ours, this "the steeper the gear the faster the car" theory only holds up flawlessly through the end of the 1:1 ratio gear, ie 4th.
