Here is what they responded with:

"I would love to assist you with your Mustang GT purchase. However, they are
in large demand and in short quantity. We currently have a $5000.00 over
MSRP sticker on our vehicles in stock. We had three and sold all three over
President's Day weekend. We can order one for you and the price would be
MSRP, but you are going to run into the same problem with time. We are not
expecting any on our lot for approximately two months. And on an order it
would be even longer. "

This was at Koons Ford.
I would E mail Koons ford back and say, "Thanks for the price quote. Because I am doing a little comparative shopping, I have realized that you guys are a LOT higher in price than everyone else in my area. Not only has your dealership turned me off because of your extreme price, but I will make sure I tell every soul I meet not to shop your dealership. To make it right, I will need you to beat my best offer on a new gt by $500. Have a nice day."

And they would say to go somewhere else because we can make more money off the next guy. There will always be someone else that will pay a higher price because of the demand for that car.

Dealerships know that word of mouth makes a difference. I wouldn't be surprised at all if the dealer came back with a better offer and an apology.

Normally I would say your right, but with demand being so high and supply low...It's not going to happen. Your best bet is to ask for quotes from small town dealerships away from the bigger cities. Dealerships, where a bad reputation will run it out of town. The only negative side to this is dealer allotments for this vehicle. You may have to wait longer.

I was surprised to get mine fully loaded at the same price I could have ordered it for off the internet. Fully loaded with every option for 29k and that was in late October!

Wow, are they that hard to find? I found my GT on the lot here in Oklahoma and got it for about $2k under MSRP. ( I get a bit of a break in price because I work for Goodyear).

I heard through the grapevine that most of the 05 GTs were shipped to dealers west of the Mississippi. Don’t know the reason why if true. Maybe somebody else out there has heard the same thing and can offer some insight?

I live west of the Mississippi in the St. Louis area and there are none to be had around here, well maybe just a few like around 6 but nothing that I want. I think they going to the cities that currently have warmer weather then they will work north. The cities with the warmer weather will sell faster than the ones where it is still cold.

I called a dealership last week, and the said that they accept X-plan, but will charge a $1000 "market adjustment" even on an order. I guess I will have to try the other 30 metro detroit ford dealers. Has anyone had luck in the detroit area with their purchase?

I bought my Expedition via the internet, doing all the comparison shopping at home, going to each dealer well armed with materials and working the dealerships against each other for the sale.
Mustang as well, considering no one was dealing in January....
Seemed to work, and you feel better, to an extent.

I paid MSRP in San Antonio back in January. Sure do not see to many around these parts though.
