Default My first "mod" from Texas Hot Rods...

...Didn't go so well.

They're right down the road from where I'm stationed, so I thought I had gotten pretty lucky, since I would have a good shop to do all the things I want done to my car.

I went in a couple weeks ago and asked the man for a CAT BACK exhaust for my car. Not being an exhaust pro myself, I told him what I wanted from the exhaust as far as sound, and trusted in him to get me a good product (he said the Mac cat back system would be good, so I agreed).
He charged me $450 for the exhaust, and said the install would run another $40.

So about a week later I get a call saying my exhaust is in. Cool! When I show up, he opens the box and I see an AXLE BACK system. I asked him what was up with that, and he said that they don't make cat backs for the new Mustangs, and this was the same thing. I wasn't too sure about that, but I went ahead with the install, again trusting his expertise.

When I got home that night, I looked up the part number from the box and compared it to his website. They charge $313 for that particular exhaust, with free shipping, to online customers. I'm not sure if my mark up was because I was a walk-in or maybe some kind of Military discount, but I wasn't too happy. I also wasn't too happy to learn that there are many CAT BACK exhaust systems available, like what I had originally asked for, and actually paid for.

I called and left a message with my concerns, but have yet to hear back from them.

Wow. I have delt with them a few times, and never a problem. I got my Kooks from them. And I currently have a Procharger on order. I would call and ask to speak to Brian.

why do you need a CATback?

most systems for the 05+ are indeed axleback because that's where the mufflers are and the rest of the system is stainless steel - why replace it?

You know, its not even the money so much that pisses me off. It's the fact that I feel like I've been lied to (which I HATE), and the fact that now I have to find another shop to do all the mods to my Mustang.

Maybe the pricing error was just that, and maybe they'll make it right, but I'm forever lost as a customer regardless.

I don't know, I thought it might sound better I guess. Like I said, I'm no pro here.
For the record, I'm alright with the way the car sounds now, but I didn't get what I asked for or payed for.

BTW, I LOVE your car!

But a Rape is a Rape nonetheless, it still hurts and I would be knocking on their door with some printouts in hand.

Your first mistake was not asking us or doing research before you went in. A mark up is a mark up which is why you should have looked before you leaped. They can change the price. Don't get me wrong here I am not bashing you but you walked into something blind when there is no excuse because all the needed info is right here.

There is no need for catbacks on the 05+ Stangs unless you are looking to remove the cats themselves. All I want to say is do research before to keep yourself from being taken advantage of. JMO
