Maybe it's got something to do with the 3 valves per cylinder. I've noticed it too.

It's because the mufflers are so close to the *** end of the car. The SN95s sounded better because the mufflers were located closer to the center of the car.

Are you talking about the sound of deceleration when left in gear? Kinda bubbly "blub blub blub".

If you look on your window sticker, see if in addition to GT/CS, you also got the Burbly Package. I would think that is your answer.

with what exhaust?

The sound occurs with my stock exhaust and even after I switched to the MAC boom tubes. The exhaust note seems to bubble or burble mostly when letting off the gas. I've noticed this with a lot of the sound clips from other S197 owners. Like I said, it's hard to describe.
I know EXACTLY what your talking about and I agree. NONE of the sound clips I've heard sound
anything like the old small blocks of the '60's and '70's.Actually, from what I'veheard...the more the
exhaust is modified the more "gurgly" they get. The only sound clip I actually liked was someone who
had installed some cams. Now THAT reminded me of the old days. Sounded great at idle, love that
high lift sound.
