Joe Thompson, general manager of the Livonia, Michigan-based company, says the 427R is a natural extension of Roush’s Stage 1, Stage 2 and Stage 3 versions of the Mustang. The 427R runs a supercharged powerplant similar to the Stage 3, but picks up an extra 12 hp and 6 lb-ft of torque through engine control module calibration and a higher-performance exhaust system. That makes it the most powerful car in Roush Performance’s history.

Gentlemen,
As a 427 owner I can provide you with the acurate information on this issue.
Originally the 427 represented the amount of HP the car left the factory with. Same SC as the stage 3 which is rated at 415. Roush tweaked the exhaust to get the additional up to 427.
Mine has the pully upgrade ( and Reflash) which takes the car to somewhere in the neighborhood of 445 to 450. And 400 foot lb of torque. Roush stated numbers are conservative but the above is the rating. This is how the 427 started.
Playing field has now changed and the 427 does not represent the HP out of factory for 08. Cars leave the factory with the pully upgrade and reflash so they reflect the higher numbers.Much of the change of how these cars evolved came about due to the fact that Roush sold many more than they estimated.
This is one of the best High Perf cars out there for the money. I know this site as well as others is critical of Roush cars. Don't know why. Yes you can build it yourself, but many people do not want to or have the knowledge, ability, or time. To each his own. They are all mustangs. Personally I like the guys car who built it himself as well. I just like the uniqueness of the Roush along with the warranty
Best wishes to all you pony guys!
