RE: locked keys
Yup, I remember my dealer telling me that as well....But if he can't get to his registration....I'm sure there is someway of getting them to make a new key. Maybe have them look up the owner on the vehicle and you show an I.D. or something.

RE: locked keys
You can get one of those cheap dealer keys for a couple of bucks or free. I got one in the
mail from a ford dealer advertising for a contest. It had a key taped to the envelope. It
actually opened up my door and every other mustang door I tried a dealerships. I was
friggin pissed that they sent out a key that actually works. It's made of cheap metal that
bends easily, but it worked.

RE: locked keys
If you do need a replacement key it is expensive. My wife lost my spare keys so went to Wallmart to make another and they said ithas a chip in it and I will have to goto the dealer to get one. The key they make will only unlock the doors.
Goto parts department and they said key is $35 but have to go through service and pay a $45 fee to program the new key. Remote flob costs $45!

Maybe he got it used. If not, go back to the deal and get a second key. They should not change you. Go to the sales manager, or higher if you have too. But be Nice!

Yea, I figure he got it used, but if the dealer had 2 sets, why not give him 2 sets? If the dealer only had 1 set, then repo is one reason why he would only have 1 set. If the dealer took the car in on a trade, he should have asked the previous owner for ALL of the sets. I ran into this on a Ranger a while back. I practically had to hold the dealer at gunpoint to get another key. Even then, since it was after the deal, they split the $75 fee with me. My truck was a fleet vehicle that some suit drove to work for 6 months.
