Loud POP!

I usually use two jacks on one side and jack it up and just swap the tires. Never involved a spare tire before....

OK. I do a 4 tire rotation because the spare is a little dognut tire also known to me as a Gideon. I once knew some Gideons that were dirt poor like I was and they would get these things free and run em all the way around.
Jack up the driver's side rear. Take that tire off and put the Gideon on there. Take the tire that used to be on there and put it on the driver's side front. Take the one that was on the DS front and put it on the pass side rear.Take the one that used to be on the PS rear and put it on the PS front.Take the one that used to be on the PS front and put it on the DS rear where the Gideon is.

But that way, you don't get even wear. Gotta swap sides.

OK, I had just rotated my tires here at the house, and went to the store. I do my shopping, and get back in the car and am wrestling with the seat belt. Before I even start the car, I hear a load pop or thunk noise from the left front. It sent shock waves down the driver's door. At first, I thought someone had hit me with a snowball. Then, I got to thinking, maybe the spring or the sway bar settled from it being off the ground. Maybe the spring was in a bind or something. Anybody???

No. We don't have any crime here. But, I was looking around to see if someone threw something. I felt it on my left arm as it rested on the door sill.Vibrated the whole side of the car. I know those things are under a bunch of stress. I once rebuilt a 67 Coupe, and put new springs in it. Had some compressers and even had the springs chained for safety, and one of them got away from me and hit the side of the garage wall. My dog was in there and ran across the street and almost didn't come back home over the deal.
As long as you switch from rear to front, and front to rear you will have plenty of rotation for even wear. Switching sides and front to back is a little over kill if you ask me. I'll give up the 100 extra miles you're gonna get over me so I don't have to work 2x as hard every 10,000 miles.[sm=nothatway.gif]

More than that. I rotate every 5000 miles. That's just the way I was taught and some owner's manual even say to do it my way.
True, 5k is optimal, if you keep your foot out of its *** it helps alot. I have a dd, so most of the time mine is parked. Don't have to worry about changing the tires too much. Also, get a set of separate rims and tires for the track. I would say 5k-10k depending on how you drive it. But like I said, that's just me.
Those of us with directional tread on the tires can only rotate front to rear. If you switch sides you must unmount and flip the tire around on the rim which is a pain in the a$$. I have always done it this way on all my cars and have never had uneven wear issues.

You are correct. I have the KD's so no worries for me.
Yeah its even worse if you have unidirectional and staggerd sizes.
I did that on my old stang and I used to go through 2 sets of rears to one set of fronts. And I maxed out the camber adjustment on my CC plates and still was toe'd in so I wore the inside of the tread out. It was great for handling though.
I was in college at the time so I was less fiscally responsible and running DR rears all the time
I was buying new tires ever 10-15k miles. It stunk.
When I get wheels I was thinking staggered again since I will have some for of FI, but I might get some steeda ultralight pentastars (black) 18x9.5 and run 275's all the way around so I can rotate front to back.
Just something to consider when purchasing wheels.

Yea, I had staggered onmy ole 69. Those suspensions weren't the best for tire wear plus it had bias ply. I got about a year out of a set. I was cruising the owner's manual last night and does indeed say to do my cross pattern rotation. I guess they assume that everyone runs stock treads.
