To answer the OP's question about the ball bearing set up. From the research I did through Garrett turbos, streetability is improved with a ball bearing turbo, spooling slightly faster at a lower rpm and climbing the TQ curve slightly faster. The net result is the same, both turbos making the same power. For drag racing or for comparing 0-60 times, there was little or no difference since the car was already being started with a raised rpm. Per the info at Garrett's website.

Ball bearing turbos will also need more cooling. Most will use oil and water to keep the operating temps down. Journal turbos will generally work just fine with oil cooling.

I forget the size of my turbo, it's either 60 or 62, but it's rated for 620 HP. I beleive this would put me over 500 at the wheels if it was maxed out @16 psi. However, that won't be until after the engine build and a second turbo is added.

i really want to go turbo, but i have LT headers so i feel that getting the headers in the first place was a waste.

I know ball bearing turbos and journal bearings I have been messing with turbos with all my cars. I had a 02 sti, and I got a last gen supra.

So would a ball bearing turbo be worth the extra cost....$400? My car is not a Daily Driver but stays on the street most of the time and at the track on occassion.

A ball bearing in my opinion is worth it always. since the power band is much more linear. The journal bearings tend to have a spike

I agree with Androdz 100%. For the great majority of us driving our cars 95% + on the street, the ball bearing is much better.
