Default Shorty Antennas

I know this topic rises up from time to time but I'm having trouble deciding what length to get. I really want the 6", but I'd like to be able to get some reception, too. Has anybody played withdifferent lengths enough to notice a difference between like 6-12"???

ps - I want to keep my stock antenna for road trips or in case I can't get a shorty to work right.

When I researched before changing my antenna, I saw a number of threads that indicated reception problems with the 6" or 8". I ended up going with the 14" and I see no noticeable reduction in reception. Worse-comes-to-worse and you don't like the looks of 14", you can always cut it yourself. A number of people on the forum have trimmed their own antennas.

+1
I bought a cheap replacement antenna for $6 at O'Reilly and cut it myself. I used a bead I already had, so I didn't even have to get the bead off the one I bought. Here's a picture of mine:

I have the 8" on 3 of our vehicles and noticed no loss in reception.
