If I turn off my ignition and accidentally leave the keys in the
ignition, then lock the doors with the switch on the door, the
locks unlock when I close the door. The stang is smart enough
not to allow you to do this. Never tried it with the ignition on
and the motor running. Thats why I keep a spare PATS key in
my pocket at all times.

if you leave your motor running and get out and lock your doors they stay locked.

The difference between these last two posts is the fact that, only with the anti-theft system, the doors are designed to unlock if the key is left in the ignition.

Wrong? My stang came WITHOUT the anti-theft system and if you leave the keys
in the ignition and open the door and lock the doors with the door mounted switch
then close the door, it honks at you and unlocks the door.
07 model.

I leave the car running with the keys inside every day, when I stop at the base store to get lunch. I have never had it lock on me. This makes me think of doing partsbills mod.

OK, when in dought, get the owner's manual out. They have autolock.

"On vehicles with an automatic transmision, this feature automatically locks all doors when:

*all doors are closed
*the ignition is in the 3 (ON) position
*the brake is pressed before reaching 5 mph, and
*the vehicle increases to more than 5 mph.

Autolock can be deacctivated. Check your owners manual.
