Default CA Mustangs Different?

I have noticed the "422" option..."California Emissions System".
So new Mustangs purchased in CA are equipped with a different exhaust than the same model in a different state?
The reason I ask is because I am considering buying a new 08 GT in Kansas (there for work) and bringing it back to California. Do I need to change parts to meet CA emissions or does a factory stock GT automatically meet these standards?
Thanks for the help. It's greatly appreciated!

I dont think you would have to worry about anything. There are too many cars coming in and out of the state to keep track of all that. The rule, I believe, would only apply to the cars sold in that state. Out of state cars moving to Cali only have to have the federal requirements. Otherwisethat situationwould be similiar to making all older cars getting newer emissions equipment, or passing newer crash standards, etc. But, as always, make some calls to find out for sure.

You will have to meet California emissions. Whether or not the GT you speak of can meet the standards, maybe it does... or maybe not. California standards are more strict, and you may have to pay a fee to bring it in.

I wouldn't doubt there would be a fee to bring it in; my dad had an issue with that when he brought his truck that he bought in Michigan to San Diego. They slapped him with some heavy fees to register it here, and he had to take it to a referee to get a smog emissions certificate because it was from out of state and didn't have the actual "California Emissions" package on it, despite the fact that it met the smog standards.

Fun stuff. If I were you, see if you could get it with the California Emissions package installed on the car before you buy it, and if the dealer asks why, tell him you're moving to Cali and want to have it so you don't have any FURTHER issues with it when you try to register it here.

actually there's no fee to bring your out of state car to Calif!
It's when you get it registered as a California car that you will run into a lot of hassles. Some folks will use their parents' address back in their home state to keep it registered out of state, but if you get tickets they might catch you.
Probably safer to do the right thing and make it Calif legal before getting here, polluting our air and getting caught.
Ask your dealer to order the Calif. Emmisions and have them install it or DIY.

My lungs and eyes thank you!
