Default Need new shocks?

If I was going to put on some of the Steeda Springs that lower 1 inch would i need new shocks as well or would stock be fine? This may be a stupid question but i dont know much about suspension.

Not a dumb question, I was thinking of it too. I dont want to buy now shocks and struts either. The stang is a little tall. I dont know if we can drop it an inch and not worry about anything. maybe camber issues.. just dont know....

Well, I hate to jump on the "I was wondering that too" bandwagon...but.......

All I have read so far is that you might possibly need a realignment. Some people have not needed it after having it checked, others have not commented on whether or not they have gone in for one. I think I would do so just out of paranoia.

No. The stock shocks and struts are fine. I had the same discussion with my local stang performance shop and he was pleased with the stock shocks and struts and did not recommend changing them unless I planned on allot drag racing.

Yes an alignment will be need as a result of the drop. The Steeda springs dropped the front about 3/4" and the rear about 1 3/8". The rear now only stands about 1/4" higher than the rear.

If you drop it 1 inch with springs you WILL need new shocks for obvious reasons. If you do not get new shocks it may seem fine at first...but after a short while the stress on the shocks will be be too great and your brand new mustang will handle like crap.

Somebodys onto something here... As stated if you absolutely have to lower the car now it will be fine for a while, but the shocks WILL blow in time.. And by in time I mean consideribly quicker than with stock springs. I don't think it would be too big of a deal. The other issue is with higher spring rates it's important to have stiffer valved shocks and struts to keep the tires on the road over bumps.. I don't know what the spring rates are stock vs. any lowering spring offered for the '05 but thats another good reason to upgrade the shocks.. Even average aftermarket shocks that aren't designed for "high performance applications" should be better than the stock struts.

By the sounds of things though those Steeda springs probably give the '05 a hella aggressive stance. Enjoy.
