ORIGINAL: Burnsy

Redline 5W20
I had used Redline Oils for many years and thousands of miles. Believed in it, sang it praises to all fellow car fans. Then I moved to NC and the availability is not there. After much thought decided to go with Amsoil 0w-20. Changed over at 25k. I always had a little bit of valve noise for a short time after start up, attributed it to the oil operation of valve timing, or something like that, that I was told our GT engines have. I think I can say with certainty that the engine starts up quieter, and runs quieter.

I also am still using www.tufoil.com which I've been using for years and better than 200k between different cars. Machinist that built my last engine recommended it. Couldn't wait to get it in the GT. 8 ounces in the engine, 10% mix in the MT.

Castrol Syntec 5W-20 (9.1 cSt @ 100C). I kind oflike to walk the line between 20 and 30 weight.
Plus I reallylike the Basestock. It might not be 100% GIV/GV Synthetic but if Shell XHVI Basestock (Shell Helix Ultra)
is good enough for the Ferrari F1 Team its good enough for me.

Besides there isnt anything left that meets warranty guidlines of 5W-20, API, 100% GIV/V and readily available.

Dollar for dollar the Conoco (Motorcraft) Syn-Blend is very hard to beat. It contains a very high percentage of GIII
and performs very well. Its also very close to being 30 weight at 9.1 cSt @ 100C (30 weight starts at 9.3 cSt).

Huh? Does that mean that all the RP and M1 users are out of the warranty guidelines?

Amsoil won't appease to the API standard due to the fact that they have higher levels of Phosphorous in their oil than what the API standards think is safe for catalytic converters. I've seen many used oil analysis' of Amsoil and it's great motor oil, just not API certified.

And after noticing that Saleen recommends 5w30 oil in their supercharged version of our exact 3V engineit was enough for me to switch to 0w30 amsoil.

More info on API/Amsoil story:

I think I am going to switch to 0-30W once I get FI, mainly because I intend to go to the track a couple times, so engine temps will be higher then normal. We'll see..........I don't think either will hurt the car.
