I ordered an Auto.

I will be drivng my stang every day back and forth to work. The traffic SUCKS around "here".

I have had manuals, and do agree with the fun factor. However... Having had a few muscle cars with autos, I have also learned there are several optional aftermarket shift kits and/or gearheads in transmission shops that can get some KICK *** performance out of automatics.

An interesting point... the FASTEST dragsters are automatics.

NOW.. what I really wish is that I make enough money that I could order TWO Stangs... One to drive to work.. and one to take out for playing. BUT.. my wife seems to think my money could be better spent on stupid stuff like dining room tables. YA CAN'T DRIVE A DINING ROOM TABLE! Geezzz.. what is a guy to do?

[sm=happybounce.gif] JC74, dude a have to hand it to YOU. Honestly, that has been the funniest thing I've heard all week...perhaps all month. Thanks for making me laugh, I needed that. You have a great sense of humor. But in all seriousness I do believe manuals are the way to go. I DO understand the good points of an automatic. I DO understand what EVERY automatic stang owner is saying. Manuals suck in heavy traffic. There has been countless times that I have gotten out of my car with a sore foot. It happens. However,.... I LOVE to drive. I love to get in my car and get away sometimes. I Love the feeling of being free, being able to dump the clutch in third gear and blasting through traffic. It's worth a sore foot any day of the week. It's worth it because I love to drive. I could go on and on about my feelings but I believe I got my point across. And to GWFOOS, you're right, these are MY reasons for choosing a manual. These opinions are mine to anybody who wants to listen. Speed isn't the only thing important to someone that is seeking a mustang...You've got to have the fun factor. People remember how fun it is to drive a mustang from their childhood and that's a big reason they are buying them now. We all buy a mustang for the fun, otherwise we would all buy cheap used cars without the fun factor. As for bmw and mercedes,...Now that is a GREAT argument isn't it. If you've ever had the joy of watching a car race, you will notice some cars make use of paddle shifting. It's better and faster than manual shifting. So I agree that manual doesn't always mean speed. But when both transmissions for the mustang are soo close in speed, why not opt for the manual. And JC74, don't worry...I won't smite or condemn you for not worshipping me.LOL (p.s. life is too short to argue with people you do not agree with, you do what's right for you because that is what matters.)

Now that should have been your first post. That's well phrased and non-confrontational to others.

That is an INCREDIBLY ignorant statement. They're only automatics because they are so fast you would be shifting more than you would be accelerating. Take a second and think.

I'm a mechanical newb and don't have a Mustang YET! The '05 vert just give me a ****-** !!!

But I really want to know, how is an automatic proven to be better than manual? I mean, the automatics I drive now just suck. In fact, it feels more like a manual only I'm shifting it with my foot -- if I want to downshift, I punch the gas -- idle, I let off the gas. I always seem to be in the highest gear possible giving me no power at all when I really need it. I mean common I got more power out of my old Subaru 4 cylinder manual than I do my newer V6 Alero auto or my parent's brand new Sonata. Autos also seem to start rattling when they get old (maybe cuz I never take my cars into have the regular maintenance check-ups??)

I'm really wanting to know what makes the Mustang's auto better? Are these problems solved with some new Ford technology?

The electronic throttle control really hurts both the manual and the automatic. But I'd say it hurts the automatic more because you can't even out the clutch/gas when you shift which creates some lag.
