Default TPMS reset by dealer?

I'm getting my new rims mounted with tires tomorrow, and I was planning on getting the tire pressure sensors transferred to my new rims at the same time until I talked with a tire guy tonight and he told me the dealer would have to reset the sensors since I was going from a 17" rim to an 18" rim and the recommended tire pressure would be different. I hadn't thought about this. Has anyone run into this situation? I'm switching from stock 17x8 silver bullitts to 18x8.5 silver flangeless bullitts.

The TPMS thing is such a hassle. I hate it. I think I'll just forget about them and deal with the occasional Tire Pressure Fault code.

The fault code remains permanent. That's the first tick.

The second tick is that the tire pressure won't matter at all. The tires are rated at somewhere around 40PSI IF I REMEMBER CORRECTLY. Almost all tires I've seen run with this. Low profiles run with a little less. Going up in size one inch won't matter. There is no reset. I had my stock rims swapped out for aftermarkets (see pic) and I had 16 stocks. Went up to 17s. Going to 18s soon... In either case: I didn't have to reset the sensor. All that happened was they expanded the holding brace on the sensor so it fit on the wheel.

Don't get talked into some sort of "reset." They'll do literally nothing, because nothing needs to be done. Now one note: if you drive off the tire lot and the sensor is on after the wheels have been swapped, drive half a mile or so. It has to adjust.

Dont believe there is that much of a difference to need them "dealer reset".
Try it first and you can always go for the "dealer reset" if they are not working
properly. [/color]
