haha i lost a 20$ bet saying i could push start my car by my self.. i looked like an idiot doing it.. it took me seriously like 2 mins of all my might (i play football; fullback and linebacker) and once i thought i had it going at a good speed, i hopped in my car and tried to do it but the second i got it, i just completely stopped =/.. i dont think its possible to do it your self

i used to bump start my old volvo all the time
i dont see it being unusually harsh on any 1 component, but i cant see it being great for them either
BUT, ive never tried, can you bump start a car with a distributorless ignition?

Lol, some good repies in here, made me laugh.
I had a buddy that had an old rx7 that the starter was dead, he just made sure he always parked on a hill, or had enough people to push if he shut it off.
Oh yeah, warn the people pushing before you let off the clutch, we dont want any broken heads or taillights
